Spanish company Ecoener has outlined its intention to invest approximately €300 million in the Greek renewables market as part of its European expansion plans. Ecoener established a Greek subsidiary in March 2023 called Ecoener Hellas and is currently developing a renewables portfolio totalling 350 MW, which has obtained the first administrative authorisation, according to the company. “We appreciate the confidence of the Greek government in Ecoener’s projects,” said Luis de Valdivia, CEO of Ecoener. “It is a country where we intend to stay and increase the number of megawatts of renewable energy.” The Greek government recently issued the first administrative license to Ecoener for the development of its initial set of 10 renewable energy projects within the country. Among these projects, two have progressed further in the planning stages. The first is a 42 MW wind farm and the second is a 50 MW solar PV project. Both projects are on track to reach the construction-ready stage by the end of 2025, with an expected grid connection in the first half of 2027. In addition to these projects, Ecoener has secured the initial license for eight more solar PV projects, totalling 272 MW, which are slated to be ready for construction in H1 2026. Ecoener added that a notable feature of these eight solar plants was the inclusion of a battery storage system component. Ecoener aims to build the new renewable energy facilities across various regions in Greece, including Epirus, Central Greece, Thessaly, Western Macedonia, and Central Macedonia. In addition to Greece, Ecoener is active in Italy, Poland, Romania, and the Dominican Republic. The company has 341 MW of renewables in operation and another 352 MW under construction. #cleanenergy

ABO Wind becomes ABO Energy. Leading international renewable energy developer ABO Wind has rebranded in Northern Ireland to become ABO Energy. The company is leading NI's shift away from fossil fuels, having achieved planning approval for 375MW of renewable electricity generation and storage. Initially set up to develop onshore wind farms, the company’s focus has expanded, and its expertise has grown to include battery energy storage, solar PV and hydrogen production. Commenting on the rebrand, Patricia McGrath (MIPI), ABO Energy’s Head of Development in Northern Ireland said: “The name ABO Energy much better reflects the breadth of skills and expertise we now have. "The rebrand does not involve a change in company ownership, and our ethos remains unchanged. Everyone who deals with ABO Energy will see the same ambition, professionalism and respect they are used to from our team. “In addition to our already consented schemes, under the ABO Energy banner we are progressing a pipeline of new projects totalling over 300 MW and we expect that to grow further in the coming months. “There is a lot of work to do if we are to achieve the 2030 target of 80%; but at ABO Energy we are more than up for the challenge.” #ClimateChange #RenewableEnergy #SustainableInvestment

Another milestone for Australia in the transition to a cleaner energy future! The great news from The Sydney Morning Herald, with renewables hitting a record-high contribution, confirms that the momentum toward renewable energy is undeniable. This peak, recorded last Tuesday - the highest ever according to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) - underscores the critical role of large-scale storage projects in balancing intermittent renewable sources and securing a reliable energy future. Our proposed Western Sydney Pumped Hydro project will contribute to the grid's reliability by providing more 500,000 homes and businesses with on-demand renewable electricity by 2031. Exciting developments from Neoen, as the company secures final approval from New South Wales regulators to proceed with the construction of a 192MW wind farm. This project is a crucial component of a large-scale hybrid renewable energy hub planned for the Australian state. As reported by Veselina Petrova for Renewables Now Ltd, the green light for the Thunderbolt Wind Farm was granted by the state's Independent Planning Commission after careful consideration, following objections that led to a referral from the state government planning department. With conditions outlined in the final permit, including specifications regarding turbine height, landscape preservation, and road enhancements, Neoen is poised to commence construction ~47km northeast of Tamworth, in the New England region of New South Wales. Once operational, the Thunderbolt Wind Farm is expected to feature up to 32 turbines and generate an impressive 570,000 MWh of electricity annually. This AUD-373-million project represents the initial phase of a broader initiative aimed at establishing a comprehensive renewable energy ecosystem within the New England Renewable Energy Zone. This ambitious plan envisions not only wind power but also solar and battery storage capacity, collectively contributing to a more sustainable and resilient energy landscape. #renewables #sustainability #windfarm #australia #newsouthwales #cleanenergyfuture #thunderbolt #evoegy

Wiltshire’s Good Energy offers customers stake in projects via new partnership Chippenham-based renewables provider Good Energy has become an official supply partner of Ripple Energy, which employs a cooperative renewable energy ownership model. The new partnership will provide Good Energy customers the option to buy into and own a portion of large-scale wind and solar projects. They’ll then earn back credit through the electricity generated by those same projects. Nigel Pocklington, chief Executive of Good Energy, said: “Good Energy are the specialists in microgeneration – helping hundreds of thousands of customers to generate their own clean power and source it from small-scale renewable generators. “By working with Ripple, we can offer them the chance to own their own portion of a large-scale renewable project and reduce their bills at the same time.” Sarah Merrick, founder and chief executive of Ripple Energy, added... Wind power saved Northern Ireland £243m in 2023, according to Wind Energy Ireland's annual report and a Baringa report. By using wind energy, Northern Ireland avoided spending an extra £176m on gas and nearly £70m on carbon credits, reducing emissions by 0.9m tonnes - equivalent to carbon produced by 200,000 homes. Nearly half of Northern Ireland's power is now from renewables, mainly wind, making up 83.8% of renewable energy. Despite this success, RenewableNI's Steven Agnew highlights challenges like planning issues and grid development, urging the establishment of a task force to meet the 2030 target of 80% renewable energy consumption.
