I'm often asked when delivering workshops, presentations and hosting virtual and/or live meetings, "what made you choose to live in #SouthAfrica, in 1998?" Most, expect me to tell a political #story, which would precede the emerging narrative of fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of a soon to arrive, "Rainbow Nation", in the new #Democracy. Those same people are often surprised by my answer. I'd love to hear if any of it is relatable to you? Here's a bit of my #afrofuturist story and journey.

Democracies boost societal resilience but face decline. They manage crises better, promote public accountability, and use citizens’ assemblies for forward-thinking solutions. Yet, they stagnate due to #globalization, #inequality, #individualism, and #CorporateInfluence. Strengthening democracies requires more participation, representation, and equality. The Ends of Organizations? Ken Galbraith's observation in 'The Affluent Society' (1958) tells us that there is an end (or goal) of evolving organizational practices, namely, to serve higher-order needs and partake in a more democratic form. If so, then it seems that a 'good' organization is one that is measured by how 'democratic' it is in its make-up, decision-making, treatment of its members, etc. and how well it serves higher-order needs of society. But I do wonder if this also stacks the deck in favour of a particular view of institutions that itself fails to make room for organizations that do not value such structures but wish to also be called good. What other values or ends should organizations aim to achieve?!? #democracy #institutions #organizationalculture #organizations #organizationalchange #organizationaldevelopment #Goals #Ideas #business

When numerous crises and unpredictable changes cause turbulence, robust governance is essential to temper the storm and adjust to new routines. At University of California, Berkeley, Professor Christopher Ansell stated, "Turbulence is experienced as a surprising hot mess that triggers the intensification of demands. Governments should care about turbulence because it can lead to a breakdown of basic routines and systems.” #democracy #multilevelgovernance #politicalscience #robustgovernance
