🗓 #InternationalChildhoodCancerDay Each year, childhood cancer affects 138 children in every million under the age of 15. However, thanks to the development of Pediatric Oncology, between 75 and 80% of those children with a tumor will be cured of their disease with no or minimal sequelae in most cases. At #CLOVERTY, we adhere, convinced, to all actions that involve an increase in research against all types of ailments, especially those as difficult as a diagnosis of cancer, and above all, in children. We are committed to help and more means for the wonderful performance of health professionals for early diagnosis and treatment that guarantees the quality of life of patients and their families. #CLOVERTY has been leading this aspect for several years. Its products, in soft gelatin capsules, represent a good nutritional and pharmaceutical habit to prevent and combat, as a complement, any attack on health. In addition, he also regularly collaborates in the social and family sphere, through the Roland McDonald Foundation. It is “a true home away from home”. The objective is to preserve their hours of play, of intimacy, as long as physical conditions allow it. At #CLOVERTY we are very proud to afford a room in this house of hope, full of life. Also, we have financed the replacement of all appliances, and the donation of baskets with all kinds of products for the parents of diagnosed children and adolescents, to make everything a little more bearable. The most exciting thing, in any case, was this past Christmas, when our employees became in Santa's helpers to deliver gifts and receive the smiles and hopes of the little ones. I know, I’m off again, I read an article today about delays and decline in services and available treatments for cancer and how overwhelmed support services like Macmillan have become due to those delays. You never know how vital support is until you need it personally. My family's journey with Macmillan cancer units highlighted the crucial role they play not just for patients but their families too. When my husband was diagnosed in 2021 with aggressive and Stage IV the Macmillan teams showed us nothing but compassion. As a young family facing advanced disease, their care made all the difference and we are incredibly fortunate to have him with us today and in remission. Not an outcome we ever thought possible. You will understand why I find it heartbreaking to see NHS services struggling, leading to delays that can be a matter of life and death, because I know that a delay for our family would almost certainly have led to a very different outcome and that’s the ugly truth of what is happening now to someone else’s family. I cannot accept this failure and neither should you. Many people think they cannot make a difference but this is not true. Individuals coming together as communities have immense power to drive change. Don't underestimate the impact of one person's voice in demanding better funding, policies, and management of our healthcare systems. Take action, write to your representatives, MPs and advocate for improvements. Every effort counts in ensuring timely diagnoses, early treatments, and adequate funding to save lives, maybe your life, or your loved ones lives. Together, we can make a difference and prevent tragedies like losing loved ones due to system failures, funding, management and policy, which is indefensible to a bereaved family. I haven't posted about a non-profit recently. Life has gotten in the way. That will change today. On Saturday night I attended a benefit dinner for The Cure Sanfilippo Foundation and had to post. This organization deserves as much publicity as possible, so please feel share this post. Thank you to Mike Lykes and Economic Alliance Houston Port Region for the invitation to attend. Sanfilippo Syndrome is a rare genetic disease that affects young children. It is often diagnosed around three years old. Sanfilippo Syndrome has been called Alzheimer's for children. The symptoms start as development delays, hearing loss, and extreme hyperactivity. They progress to loss of speech, seizures, loss of the ability to speak, and loss of mobility. Sanfilippo children typically die in their teens. The disease is so rare that it only affects about 15,000 children globally. It is so rare that large biotech and pharmaceutical companies don't spend resources on finding a cure, because they don't see a value. Federal Grants are scarce. There is currently no treatment or cure. At the event, we heard about #frankieprice, the granddaughter of Mike, who is Chief of Staff to Commissioner Adrian Garcia. Frankie was recently diagnosed with San Filippo Syndrome. Frankie, so full of life, deserves a chance at a future. The benefit may be small to the labs that do medical research, but it is enormous to the children and families that deal with Sanfilippo Syndrome. Funding for medical research is left to families and friends. They know a cure is possible. They are asking for support to turn hope into scientific action. Every child deserves a chance to live. Children's rights in hospital are certainly very important and need highlighting! ...Well done CCLG!! 🎗️❤️ But I feel that I have to say that I find two things that are not entirely correct in this: (Both under the title: "The Right to Safety and Environment" in the Research Roundup - The second is by far the most important in my opinion!) ------ 1. "Hospitals USUALLY ALSO ALLOW A PARENT TO STAY WITH THEIR CHILD, which can help children feel safer and more comfortable." [In my experience, parents are EXPECTED to stay with their children! ...which almost all want to do anyway, especially with younger children!] & 2. "Hospitals are also always trying to improve and give children AND FAMILIES lots of opportunities to give feedback about the care they have received. This can highlight whether there are issues like UNSUITABLE FOOD, poor accessibility, or if improvements are needed in the ward’s cleaning." [Also in my experience, parents DO NOT get any food provided for them when in hospital with their children in the UK, and haven't been for years! *See page 8 (Item No. 11) of the WHO document! - free meals for parents!!? - it says, under "Meaningful Progress": "Most parents are allowed and encouraged to stay with their children AND have other rights in hospital, such as free meals"!!?] ------ *Please see my comment below.

On March 1, 2023, Healthcare Excellence Canada (HEC) and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (the Partnership) announced the first 10 communities to receive support through a new program called Improving Equity in Access to Palliative Care. ⁠ ⁠ This initiative, launched in 2022, is a partnership between HEC and the Partnership that focuses on improving access to palliative approaches to care with and for people who are experiencing homelessness or vulnerable housing in Canada.⁠ ⁠ Read the interview with Health Equity Advisor Dr. Naheed Dosani about Improving equity in access to palliative care: https://lnkd.in/edRpgfz7
