AccendoWave - A Pain #Data Company Chronic pain can limit your everyday activities and make it hard to work. It can also affect how involved you are with friends and family members. Co-workers, family, and friends may have to do more than their usual share when you cannot do the things you normally do. You may feel isolated from the people around you. Unwanted feelings, such as frustration, resentment, despair, and stress, are often a result. These feelings and emotions can worsen your back pain. Mind-body Relationship The mind and body work together, they cannot be separated. The way your mind controls thoughts and attitudes affects the way your body experiences pain. Pain itself, and the fear of pain, can cause you to avoid both physical and social activities. Over time this leads to less physical strength and weaker social relationships. It can also cause further lack of functioning and pain. A Top 4 Global Health Equity Solution and Top 15 Global Remote Monitoring Company, AccendoWave, benchmarks objective brain wave #pain data (specialty, gender, age) and has nine #pain databases: Emergency Department, Maternal Health, Oncology, MSK, Medical Surgical, ICU, Women, Adults, Seniors to eliminate bias, improve outcomes and reduce health care costs. If desired, AccendoWave can also create customized pain databases for partners that can be accessed on the Datavant platform. https://lnkd.in/gTFanNue

Hysterical people react to real disease... ... by acting hysterical. ______________ This was some of the best advice I ever received from one of my mentors back in residency. It saved me from myself many times. How? Healthcare workers get tired. They get a little jaded. Some days, their fatigue leads to a temporary loss of compassion. It's almost impossible to avoid from time to time... no matter how "good" of a person you are. During those times, it can be difficult to maintain objectivity when managing a patient whose emotions tend to guide their behavior and decisions. There are many patients who have minor pain, minor injury, or minor illness... but behave flat out hysterical. Screaming... crying... cursing... throwing out threats... you name it... we've all seen it. When managing this subset of patients, healthcare workers frequently go into a mode where we assume there is nothing wrong with the patient... they are simply acting the fool... "just like they always do when they come in here." HOWEVER... The reality is that patients who already have a tendency toward uncontrolled expression of their emotions react to REAL DISEASE by acting hysterical... just like they do when they are afflicted by minor injury or illness. As hard as it might be, healthcare workers must always remember this fact and have a high index of suspicion for serious disease/injury when managing a patient whose emotional response seems way out of proportion to what you are seeing from a clinical perspective. This is not an easy thing to do. Not by a long shot. So... I offer this phrase once more... "Hysterical people react to real disease by acting hysterical." Memorize it. Say it to yourself every time you encounter a patient with a challenging or confrontational emotional response to their situation. Say it to yourself quietly as you are diagnosing and treating. Say it to yourself once more before you discharge the patient. Just keep saying it to yourself, over and over again... until you are sure you've checked YOUR emotional response and managed the patient objectively. #medicalmalpractice #expertwitness

Last week, a patient in his 20s came to me to treat his lower back pain. As a doctor, it was alarming as it shouldn’t occur this early. But unfortunately, it is becoming a premature sign of ageing, striking as early as your 20s. In 2020, low back pain affected 619 million people globally, and it’s projected to increase to 843 million by 2050. What’s even more shocking is that 90% of these cases are due to non-specific low back pain (LBP). And this is alarmingly common among 20-30-year-old working professionals. If you’re young and find yourself at the doctor’s, they might just prescribe you medication, and you think you’re cured. But it’s NOT true! Medications, hot water bags, ice therapies, and pain relief oils are all short-term fixes. They don’t address the root cause of the pain. Chronic pain often results from prolonged periods in one position and poor body posture. So instead of mindlessly taking pills, focus on effective long-term solutions, and try these: 1. Regular exercise to strengthen your back and core muscles 2. Taking breaks and stretching after long hours of sitting These simple steps can significantly reduce back pain. #healthandwellness #backpain #ageing

As we age, our bones, like so many other things, lose their strength. This can lead to an increased risk of fractures and general discomfort. This is due to both disuse, and the changes in hormonal levels that our bodies experience with age. This can lead to osteoporosis, a disease of the bones whereby individuals are at a very high risk of fracture, because of how brittle they have become. Luckily, our bones, just like our muscles, can become stronger with exercise. By performing resistance training, we can improve the health of our bones by: 1. Increasing bone remodelling - this slows the rate of bone deterioration, and can even result in bone formation 2. Increasing muscle mass - by improving muscle mass, our muscles can bear some of the load experienced by our bones. This will help us move better for a safer and healthier lifestyle. Concussion causes short-term but widespread inflammation throughout the body, and alcohol is pro-inflammatory. The effects of alcohol can feel stronger whilst recovering from a concussion, and can also slow the healing of the brain. Part of my role as a clinician is helping my patients feel more empowered in their recovery. It is my responsibility to help them understand how choices, like alcohol, can have huge impacts on healing. https://lnkd.in/gTZ-p8R7
