Restaurant Company Europe (RCE), a powerhouse with over 75 outlets across the Netherlands and a staggering turnover exceeding 200 million euros. Familiar names like Loetje, Happy Italy, Stan, and Beers & Barrels all fall under the RCE umbrella. 200 million euros, a high turnover often signifies a company's significant impact on its surroundings. This is where robust ESG regulations come into play. These regulations ensure businesses operate responsibly, minimizing their environmental footprint, upholding ethical social practices, and maintaining strong corporate governance. But with stringent ESG regulations in place, how exactly does RCE navigate this landscape and achieve such success? On a recent episode of The Food Service Growth Show, I sat down with JacobJan van Duijvenvoorde, RCE's CFO, and Eric Maurits, their Director of Purchasing and ESG, to get the inside scoop on ESG regulations and how they're making it work for them. One of the key components of ESG regulations is understanding and managing the different scopes of emissions. Scope 1. Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources. This would include emissions from company vehicles or on-site fuel combustion. Scope 2. Indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling consumed by the reporting company. Scope 3. All other indirect emissions that occur in a company’s value chain. For example, emissions from purchased goods and services, waste disposal, and transportation. Perfection Fresh Australia is in court as 12 women sue the company for alleged sexual harassment at its Two Wells glasshouse facility. PepsiCo found itself on the wrong side of a federal court decision on an action brought by the Australian Taxation Office. The Australian Bureau of Statistics releases its first Consumer Price Index this week on 1 Feb, which the alcohol excise is indexed against. @Diageo's Bundaberg Distilling Company Pty Ltd has launched a campaign about how untenable the twice-yearly indexing (the second ABS CPI is released on 1 August) is on spirits companies. A bottle of Bundaberg Rum is currently taxed at 63 cents per litre. The Independent Brewers Association expressed similar desperation about the situation for its sector, taxed at the same rate, as one of the country's best known craft breweries Wayward Brewing Company went into voluntary administration at the beginning of the year - great news to hear at the second creditors meeting on Thursday that the brewery will keep operating. And Eighth Day Foods has had a major breakthrough in a plant protein that can replace whitefish. They need investors to push to commercial production in what is a very tough market atm. And the tenders closed for Sara Lee Friday week ago - can't wait to hear the outcome for this. This bespoke training program, initially for those in commercial roles, comprises eight modules covering crucial sustainability topics, such as Climate Change, Carbon Footprinting, Operational Sustainability, Healthy and Sustainable Diets, and Food Waste. Frontline sales colleagues will engage in online training sessions led by experienced trainers.
