Hi everyone, I wanted to provide an update what I have been doing this last year in the Nestlé's Factory Management Development Program.
The first 6 months of the program, I learned the end to end process what happens on the production floor while shadowing the different job roles from production supervisors, line leads to machine operators. As well as, I learned the importance and responsibilities of each department within the factory from Human Resources, Finance, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing excellence, Warehouse and Maintenance.
After the first few months of the program and to finish off 2023, I moved into the warehouse department to work on my phase 1 project and start my first job role within warehouse.
Project: Inbound Raw Goods Truck Report
Results ☑️: Improve and smooth out the raw goods inbound truck schedule Monday through Saturday. With the goal working towards only receiving trucks Monday through Friday. With teamwork, we reduced the work labor hours equally of 3 full time employees equivalence which resulted in $289K of cost savings.
Challenges‼️:Working cross-functionally with different departments externally and internally.
Key learnings 📝: Acknowledge that I am still learning and need to reach out to my team when I need help. Collaborating with my team to determine a solution to the problem.
During my project, I also was the full time packaging materials (cases, trays, pictorials, film)buyer at our factory. In this position, I developed my knowledge in how and why we order the packaging materials a certain way while seeing if we can make changes to improve warehouse inventory space. Not only I was ordering the packaging materials, I took on different buyer responsibilities that were done on a weekly basis such as obsolete report, scrap tickets and working with our suppliers.
After completing my rotation in my buyer role, for the month of May, I will be shadowing on 1st shift for my warehouse supervising role. Starting in May, I will be moving to 2nd shift to begin this role.
I can’t believe it’s almost been a year in my factory program, I have learned important lessons and built relationships internally and externally with amazing people. Excited for my warehouse supervisor role and what this next year has to come in my program.
