We are thrilled to applaud Gov. Bill Lee and the Tennessee legislature for passing the Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security (ELVIS) Act, leading the way in protecting artists and songwriters from misuses of AI technology. We believe providing protections for the unique voices of songwriters and artists is necessary to ensure music creators will continue to write the music that moves our world. AI holds great promise for music creators, but they should have a choice regarding when, if, and how to engage with AI. We will continue to work with Human Artistry Campaign to ensure the potential abuses from these new technologies do not devalue the work of music creators. #MusicMovesOurWorld Getty Images for Human Artistry Campaign

Is this the first step to protecting creatives and property from AI in the US? I have been thinking about how we all learn. Questioning whether that is different than how machines learn and what they do with the knowledge gained in the process. We are trained on the creations, processes and of the giants who came before us. Then we take the best of it all, mix it together with our own thinking and experiences and hopefully create new things for others to eventually expand or perfect. What hasn’t been tolerated, at least in spirit in our modern western world is outright theft. Most people agree no one should reproduce the substance of what others have done and call it their own, even if we tolerate that many do because it brings us utility or entertainment. Legally those who create need to show that their work contributes or grows upon others and not just copies. The Internet, music sampling, our modern culture and global commerce have blurred many of those lines. AI has the potential to steamroll over them. The legal system will have a hand in deciding how far AI is allowed to go. Laws like this seem to be a good first step. Hopefully more states and then federal lawmakers weigh in and start the process. #marketing #artificialintelligence #technology #ai
