Cutting Edge is Cutting Cost… Only a handful of years ago, building management systems controlling our work environments (air conditioning) were cutting edge and cutting costs. But they worked on settings such as opening times, seasons and predetermined parameters (rarely reviewed). Now, AI and integrated BMS systems can read car parking scanners and entrance/exit access cards, determine who and how many are in the building and treat the environment accordingly to real-time data. 🇦🇴 Lubango Digital Twin - this is not it, but it's the first step! If you're from Lubango (Huíla, Angola), comment if it was easy to find your house! If you're from elsewhere, comment to say if you could identify any building you know! 🏙 When you want to create the digital twin of a city, the first step is to assess the cartography available, either from official sources like the national or regional surveyor, or from open data sources, like open street maps (which was the case for the example video). 🗺 But a city digital twin is much more than buildings cartography. Roads, railways, and all utilities must be present, as well as traffic data and demography. Then you've got to collect topographic data to have digital elevation models (both terrain and surface are required). And finally, you'll need detailed orthophotography to create an intuitive drape of your city. Those are the bare requirements to consider as a starting point. 🛩 All that data is collected with different processes, tools and working methods, but some a professional drone flight, well planned and safely executed, is half way to success. That will provide you both the Digital Surface Model (DSM) and the Digital Terrain Model (DTM), a dense Point Cloud that will enable a detailed 3D view of the city, and a complete orthorectified image mosaic. Underground utilities, like water supply, city sewer and rain drainage, electricity and communications, must be collected by other means. 💫 With all that you can say that you've created a digital twin of your city. With the right tools, you'll be able to perform the simulations required for every day scenarios and planning: urban waste disposal, traffic congestion, rain floods, urban fires, and many other daily activities. With a good city digital twin you can describe and prove how efficiency can be incorporated into land use planning, street design and community development. 🥇 All drone flights for Digital Twins are performed by a certified pilot, so we always minimize risk for people, constructions, and vehicles.
