Rebekah Pagis’ Post

May marks the beginning of a month-long awareness campaign for Williams syndrome (WS). You may be wondering (as we did when our son was first diagnosed about 9 years ago), what is Williams syndrome? Williams syndrome is a spontaneous genetic disorder affecting 1 in 10,000 births. The same odds as finding a four-leaf clover 🍀, getting struck by lightning ⚡, or finding a pearl in a clam  🦪! Everyone who has a baby has the same chances of having a child with WS. It is characterized as a deletion of 26-28 genes out of 20,000+, which is such a tiny amount of missing data, but with such a huge impact!  Organizations like the Williams Syndrome Association are pivotal to help shorten the gap on funding and provide resources for families, doctors, educators, and others. During this month, I’ll be sharing more information about WS and hope it encourages you to help bring awareness to this rare genetic disorder. At the end of the month, we are inviting our friends and family to join our Team Joachim in Philadelphia on June 2nd to walk with the Philadelphia Williams syndrome community. If you live nearby, please join us!! And if you don’t, please consider donating to support all the wonderful work of the WSA 💙💚❣️ https://lnkd.in/ein3me7a
