💪🏼 DONE! Last night I finished reading/listening to “The Diary of a CEO” by Steven Bartlett. The second half of this book was just as good, if not better than first half. The more I read/listened, the more I wanted to keep going. My key take aways from the second half of this book are: ✅ Pause and acknowledge when things aren’t going well, reflect and seek a way to fix the issue and don’t be afraid to ask for help. ✅ Ask yourself why something may not work and develop a contingency plan. ✅ DISCIPLINE beats Talent. You don’t have to be the smartest in the room, just smart with your time. ✅ Build a sense of community and culture in your business. Share your mission and bring the RIGHT people in that share your passion to achieve the same goal. Delist the ones that don’t. ✅ Celebrate the small wins. Gradual progression each day leads to a positive attitude that you’re achieving something, which bolsters motivation. 1% better each day. ✅ Broadcast and show off your team and individual wins. Recognition builds trust and sense of value. Do yourself a favour and read this book. You will thank yourself later! 😎

Thought of the week… from my note book. Getting to the root of any given ask is so important to ensure we don’t go wandering off exploring something and not meet the immediate ask. Not that we don’t explore, but we keep timeliness in mind and tune in to the management team’s challenges. Really interested in how we get teams and wider teams and leaders better connected and engaged, so that work and effort can really flow well.

Solid advice for starting a New L&D role! It’s tempting to blaze in as the hero; Sam’s tips remind us that this isn’t about us at all. Ps-my addition to this list is “use what’s there”- there are passionate learners who’ll be first in line for testing your work. There are people whose connections cross team boundaries, and channels of communication that aren’t in any induction book. Follow Sam’s advice and you’ll find out where these are.
