Why is Ticketmaster's lawsuit significant? Discover how this case could reshape the ticketing industry and create new opportunities for innovative startups. Dive into the key issues and potential impacts in our latest post. 🎟️⚖️💡
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 Live Nation Entertainment, the parent company of 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, has recently been sued by the U.S. Department of Justice and 30 state attorneys. The allegations involve monopolistic practices that enable Ticketmaster to engage in price gouging using dynamic pricing tools. Since the merger of the two brands in 2010, they have become the dominant player in the entertainment ticketing industry, spanning theaters to festivals and music to sports. 🎟 ⚽ 🎭 🎸 🥁 The plaintiffs aim to break up Live Nation. The core of the problem is that Live Nation controls 60% of the top amphitheaters in the U.S. and, through Ticketmaster, controls at least 80% of major venues' primary ticketing for concerts. 🎫 On the other hand, Live Nation argues that the real causes of higher ticket prices include unexpected inflation, increasing production costs, very active ticket scalping in the secondary market 📈 , and the extreme popularity of superstar artists. It will be very interesting to follow the lawsuit and see the outcome. Nevertheless, a forced breakup could significantly help ticketing and pricing startups, such as DynamO Pricing, gain a share of the ticketing income pie. Additionally, it’s important to emphasize that 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹—a knife that can be useful or lethal depending on the user's purpose. #dynamicpricing, #ticketing, #dynamopricing, #ticketmaster, #livenation

🏟️ In the realm of entertainment, the boundaries separating sports and music are becoming increasingly indistinct. 🎤What were once stadiums solely dedicated to sporting events are now emerging as favoured locations for hosting musical concerts. 🎫From Madison Square Garden in New York to Wembley in the UK, these iconic venues are hosting as many gigs as they do sporting events. ✅ Global Payments Inc. have created a technology stack that helps these venues deliver amazing memories, and maximise revenue opportunities. ⬆️Flexing technology upwards to support ‘pop up’ bars, hawking, concessions etc. Live stock analytics allow the venues keep an eye on top sellers, and our ‘off line’ capability gives the venue peace of mind should the comms fail 🫣 🏴 Our 2024 schedule kicked off last weekend with the Bruce Springsteen gig at Principality Stadium. #stadium. #concerts. #musicevents

Las Vegas's Sphere is redefining concerts. #TryNewThings It's the most customer-centric venue I've ever been to — incredible acoustics, wildly immersive visuals, and attention to detail throughout. This is the best large-format concert experience out there. Who are the bands that are early adopters? Well, three of the most forward-thinking bands known for pushing boundaries, taking risks and creating movements. U2, Phish, and Dead & Co. What sets these bands apart from the rest? 1. They've always embraced change 2. They've redesigned their approach throughout their careers 3. They play the long game This is the classic innovation adoption curve in real-time. The late movers view change as risky. The early adopters build conviction with intuition, viewing the cost of inaction far too expensive. What's your take? Are you an early adopter in your field, or do you prefer to wait for the movement to mature? Share your thoughts! #EarlyAdopters #TryNewThings #GratefulDead #DeadAndCo

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to witness Coldplay (another bucket list item checked) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium as part of their "Music of the Spheres" world tour. The experience was not just a testament to their musical genius but also an impressive showcase of their commitment to environmental sustainability. From the first note, the concert was electrifying, both figuratively and literally. Coldplay's ability to captivate the audience was unparalleled, with each song creating a powerful emotional resonance. The band connected with every person in the stadium, uniting us (60,000 people) in a shared experience of music and passion. What truly set this concert apart was Coldplay's innovative approach to sustainability, particularly through the installation of kinetic floors. This groundbreaking technology transformed the energy of the fans' movements into electricity, literally powering the show. As we danced and jumped to the rhythm of the music, our movements were not just expressions of joy but active contributions to the concert's energy. This integration of sustainable technology was mind boggling and a reflection of the band's serious commitment to reducing their environmental impact. The kinetic floors were a perfect embodiment of Coldplay's dedication, as highlighted on their sustainability website, https://lnkd.in/gdNN7xkv. It was a clear demonstration of how environmental consciousness can be seamlessly integrated into large-scale events. As a fan, it was not only thrilling to be part of such a musical feast but also humbling to be a participant in a cause greater than ourselves. Coldplay's commitment to the planet is a beacon of inspiration, showing how influential figures can leverage their platforms to entertain, educate, and inspire action towards a more sustainable future. #coldplay #musicofthespheres #sustainability #sustainablebusiness #environmentalsustainability

Fantastic to see some action being taken. If you're not aware of what's going on: Take a single Taylor Swift ticket. Only one company can sell the ticket. That company, Live Nation/Ticketmaster, buys the ticket it's "selling" immediately when it goes on "sale". No more tickets. Then it turns around and resells the ticket at many multiples, including "dynamic pricing" because, you know, everyone is desperately looking for that Taylor Swift ticket, creating artificial price inflation. The artist doesn't get additional money from this, and if the artist complains and they aren't on a Taylor-Swift level (who is?), LN/T can blacklist them from the venues they enjoy exclusivity with, which is to say, almost every single arena and stadium in the United States is now off-limits. This is a monopoly, and has been so since 2010 when the merger was inexplicably greenlit. #monopoly #livenation #ticketmaster
