The second phase of the Small-Scale Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (SRESS) has been launched by Minister Ryan. Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and Renewable Energy Communities would benefit greatly from this phase of the electricity support scheme, which will set fixed prices for solar and wind installations ranging in size from 50kW to 6MW. It is an addition to the RESS's (Renewable Electricity Support Scheme) microgeneration support for smaller projects and competitive auctions for larger projects. 🌍 Press Release: Urgent Request for Fair Access to Contracts for Difference (CfD) Mechanism The renewable energy associations RPIA - Romanian Photovoltaic Industry Association and RWEA - Romanian Wind Energy Association have issued a new press release urgently requesting that the authorities ensure fair access for the photovoltaic and wind industry to the Contracts for Difference (CfD) mechanism. 🔓 Representing producers, developers, service providers, and equipment suppliers in the renewable energy sector, with a total installed power of over 5.5 GW, the two associations are calling for immediate action. Recent statements about the intention to alter the fair allocation originally proposed for the first auction under the CfD mechanism (1 GW solar, 1 GW wind) based on erroneous assumptions—specifically, the existence of projects financed from both the PNRR and the Modernization Fund—only reinforce these incorrect assumptions and compromise one of our few chances as a country to meet our European commitments. Moreover, such a late change, shortly before the launch, jeopardizes the viability and success of the entire scheme. 🚫⚖️ The RES associations stress the critical need for authorities to maintain a fair and balanced allocation to guarantee the success of renewable energy initiatives and to achieve national and European energy targets.

The recently released 2023 Standard Scenarios Report, funded by EERE and produced by National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), offers an insightful overview of the future direction of the U.S. electricity sector. New report shows where the U.S. electricity sector is heading.      Some takeaways:   #1: Across all the scenarios, U.S. electricity sector emissions decrease significantly through the 2030s. #2: Wind and solar will make up the majority of new clean energy capacity. 

The newly published Intergrated Resource Plan(IRP) 2023 makes for quite an interesting read. Some noteable take-out: "Analysis of the grid period between now and year 2030 highlights a concerning electricity supply and demand deficit. While ongoing additional generation capacity initiatives are expected to alleviate unserved energy, they do not fully address the underlying system adequacy. The final policy decision must be taken on the basis of long term decarboniation trajectory while improving South Africa's competitiveness, growing the economy through an industrial renaissance." "Locally, the rollout of renewable energy is set to increase rapidly through public and private procurement programmes as the country aims to achieve energy security while decarbonising the electricity supply." #renewableenergy #REIPPPP #decarbonization

German energy company Uniper and its local partner Callis Zrt are developing a 280MW solar portfolio comprising six projects in Hungary. The solar portfolio is part of Uniper's strategy to invest €8bn in carbon-free energy generation by 2030. Uniper aims to have more than 80% of its power generated from carbon-free resources by 2030 as it plans to end coal-based electricity generation by 2029 and become carbon-neutral by 2040.
