Food delivery service Meituan beats revenue forecast Meituan, China's top food delivery platform, posted impressive fourth-quarter revenue of RMB 73.7 billion (USD 10.19 billion), up 22.6% year-on-year, surpassing analyst expectations. This growth was fueled by a rise in regular users, reflecting the enduring popularity of its delivery service. CEO Wang Xing highlighted record user and merchant numbers, with daily active users soaring over 30% and daily order volume hitting 60 million. The company's quick delivery, a staple of Chinese lifestyle, remains a driving force. Beyond food delivery, Meituan's diverse services contributed significantly to revenue, notably the Meituan Instashopping e-commerce platform. For the full year, revenue surged 25.8% to RMB 276.7 billion (USD 38.2 billion), with a profit of RMB 13.9 billion (USD 1.9 billion). Sales from new initiatives, including Xiaoxiang Supermarket (formerly Meituan Grocery), grew by 11.5% year-on-year to RMB 18.6 billion (USD 2.5 billion) in the fourth quarter, underscoring Meituan's commitment to diversification and innovation. Looking ahead, Meituan remains cautious yet optimistic about expansion opportunities in other markets. Meituan’s KeeTa becomes the second-largest food delivery service provider in Hong Kong KeeTa, the Hong Kong-focused food delivery platform owned by Meituan, has secured a remarkable one-third market share within just six months since its launch. Initially serving exclusively in Mong Kok and Tai Kok Tsui, KeeTa has rapidly expanded its services to cover the entire Hong Kong region. As of January 5, official figures reveal that KeeTa has garnered over 1.3 million downloads, showcasing its widespread adoption. Meituan's strategic approach, echoing its success in mainland China, is evident as KeeTa establishes itself as a significant player in Hong Kong's dynamic food delivery sector. Measurable AI's data highlights KeeTa's substantial impact, claiming 30.6% of total delivery orders in Hong Kong in November. This positions KeeTa just behind foodpanda and surpasses Deliveroo by an impressive margin of nearly 3%. Beyond user adoption, KeeTa's success extends to its merchant partnerships, boasting a network of around 10,000 merchants. The platform's consistent growth is emphasized by an average monthly merchant growth rate exceeding 30%. KeeTa's rapid ascent reflects the transformative journey of food technology in Hong Kong, propelled by Meituan's innovative strategies. The Vietnam online food delivery market size reached US$ 727.9 Million in 2022. Looking forward, IMARC Group expects the market to reach US$ 1,807.7 Million by 2028, exhibiting a growth rate (CAGR) of 15.61% during 2023-2028. A major factor catalysing the growth of the online food delivery market in Vietnam is its convenience and easy accessibility. With a growth in digital technology, the food delivery market in the country is being reshaped. Food ordered through online websites and apps provide customers convenience and a greater level of transparency. Through various online food delivery modes, consumers can compare the menus and prices of various restaurants. This enables them to order food according to their taste and preference at a better price than the conventional method of food ordering. Various food delivery applications and websites in Vietnam are offering numerous food options to their consumers. This include Vietnamese Cuisines, Western Cuisines, and South Asian Cuisines among others. Availability of such a wide range of food options caters to the food preferences of different consumers, thereby driving the overall demand of online food delivery services in the country. Enhanced efficiency of restaurants is another major driver of the online food delivery market in Vietnam. The online orders make the day to day operations more efficient for a restaurant. The time employees use to receive orders through the telephone is reduced and this increases the time employees have to focus on dine-in customers. Moreover, the chances of human errors due to miscommunication are also reduced when an order is made. Through online ordering and delivery system, a complete database of the customers can be created which helps in identifying recurring customers, their preferences and repeated orders. The previous ways of ordering food included many problems such as time constraints, different accents of people, disturbance over a phone call, etc. due to which restaurants are compelled to cancel or abandon the order. However, with the online food delivery options available, these challenges can be overcome. As a restaurant or a franchise of a food product are hesitant to launch their mobile application as it may incur additional cost for development, installation, maintenance, and marketing of the applications, they prefer to collaborate with various food delivery companies. Retailers have also been drawn to the country’s relatively young consumer population. Despite grocery delivery having made it to the mainstream in the last couple of years, the service was only the most popular one to book online in five countries out of 56 surveyed by Statista Consumer Insights between 2022 and 2023.    All five countries - Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Turkey and Russia - are in Asia and in two, grocery delivery shared rank one with restaurant delivery - without a doubt still the most popular service to book online around the world.   Restaurant delivery reigned supreme as the most popular online service in much of Europe, the Americans and Asia while also beating grocery delivery by some margin in India and China.   There are however also some countries which don't fit this mold. In nations which order very little online, including some in Eastern, Southern and Northern Europe, event bookings were the most common online service. In African countries Kenya and Nigeria, bookings for education and learning services won out. In Morocco, only a third of people is yet reached by online food delivery - still the most common online service to book.
