7 Things you should know about Veterans by Raquel Riley Thomas (U.S. Army Captain, Ordnance, Veteran) 1. We are trained not as killers for the sake of it, but as guardians ready to defend our country when duty calls. 2. We've mentally mapped every room before entering, instinctively choosing the optimal seating and keeping an eye on the exits – call it our internal recon expertise. 3. Not sitting with our backs to doors isn't just a preference; it's a deeply ingrained habit born from a commitment to awareness and security – a lesson learned through vigilant days of service. 4. Meeting a fellow veteran is like finding a long-lost sibling – an instant bond forged through shared experiences and an unspoken understanding. 5. If you just want a conversation, it's wise to clarify, because we're wired to swiftly formulate solutions – and trust me, they might not be the most diplomatic responses. 6. For a Veteran, your body language is a silent truth-teller. Within 10 seconds of interaction, we've often deciphered the honesty or deceit woven into your every gesture. 7. We signed a blank check, willingly offering our lives to ensure the tranquility of yours as you sleep soundly at night, free from the worries we carry. Honor. Respect. Protect. Veterans. Always. #veteransday #veterans #veteranowned
