Discussion of the day: If you are GREAT at one thing, do you venture out to be GREAT at more than that one thing? It's a loaded question for sure! Michael Jordan is the BEST basketball player of ALL TIME (you can argue Lebron or Kobe but not until they win 6 Championships) but was WAY below average at baseball when he stepped away from the National Basketball Association (NBA) and tried a swing at Major League Baseball (MLB). I ask this question because we were talking about our GOALS for 2024 at The Cauble Group meeting today and I'm starting to think it's time I take my LinkedIn content/skills to other social media platforms! Not Facebook. Not Snap Inc. But I'm contemplating TikTok and Instagram.... The opportunity in this world is endless and it's fun to focus on ONE THING but sometimes content, fans, support and overall satisfaction can come from other ventures and areas! We will see where 2024 takes us! Baseball is Dead, Long live baseba!! Hidden within Compton College you'll find the MLB Youth Academy. Here players learn more than just the game of bat and ball, more than the fundamentals of batting, catching, pitching, and running. Not everyone will become a professional athlete, but that is okay. You can be a scout, , trainer, an umpire, go into the back office of a team, go into broadcasting, stats, uniform design, marketing, the possibilities are endless. The staff cares for all who attend while you're developing into the various position you can play on the field; body size, gender, ethnicity, none of that matters in the game. Each player has their strengths; where you need help the staff works with you, giving you guidance on what to change to adjust and improve. The training and experiences learn here, bring life lessons that they apply to their daily life choices. The staff, coaches don't get enough credit for what and how they impact the players, their communities, and the game itself. 8aseball is not Dead, Live Long baseball.

~ 33% of 1st round MLB draft picks never play 1 day in the Big Leagues. Yet 100% of 1st round MLB draft picks can create financial optionality. The average 1st round draft pick will sign for more than $4,000,000. - On one hand, baseball has a laundry list of unknowns. - On the other hand, personal financial decisions are in our control. Let's take a post-tax, post-agent fee amount of $2,500,000. Let's look at spending $100,000 on a reward purchase. Let's say we invest 80% of what is left over. That leaves us with $1,920,000 to be invested. - The inflection point for athletes is around age 30. For a HS signee (18) that money would be worth $4,324,207. For a College signee (21) that money would be worth $3,529,841. ***Assumes a 7% rate of return. So at a time, 30 years old, where one of two things is happening. 1) Players are thinking about what is next in a post-baseball life. 2) Players are on their free-agent deals and draft money is in the past. The average first-round pick has created financial optionality (for their entire life) not by signing the big free agent deal but by being smart with their signing bonus. The athletes that retire with the most money, don't always make the most money. They are the ones that nail the financial moves in the first 3-5 years of their playing career.
