Fast food, isn't fast. They're current pulling out all the stops. They're using promotional offers to lure customers back in... As a lot of customers are spending less due to the financial issues. But, I believe they aren't addressing the real issue? Despite their name, many fast food restaurants are struggling with speed. Customers want fast food, because its fast... McDonald's, KFC etc in the post Deliveroo era often take 7-14 minutes to produce an order in store 🤯 In a world where convenience is king, I think this is a problem. Promotions might bring customers through the door, but retaining them requires living up to the promise of "fast" food. Speed isn't just a perk; it's an expectation. ✅ They've made some great strides to provide healthier options, which I love to see. But, they need to revive their ultimate unique selling point. So customers can once again again enjoy the experience of fast food. In business, you can't forget what got your customers to love you in the first place. 🥇 --------- P.S - Shout out to Leon, who actually deliver "fast" food, and most of it, is healthy. Does anyone else also hate the long waits at "fast" food?

From the consumer perspective, I don’t understand McDonald's McDelivery (and fast food delivery in general). Isn’t the purpose of fast food is to get it…like yesterday? Waiting even a few minutes for a McDonald’s cheeseburger without pickles is unconscionable, let alone 30 minutes. Might as well make the burger yourself (or ask your guardian) and dunk it in water so it gets nice and soggy. With that said, from the business side, I get it. By 2027, the online food delivery market is forecasted to reach approximately $1.4 trillion, highlighting the significant expansion of this industry according to publisher Fast Company. McDonald's introduced its McDelivery service in 1993 and later expanded it through partnerships with online delivery platforms like UberEats and DoorDash. The commission structure is really interesting. There is a flat fee but anytime DoorDash, for example, is forced to wait for a McDonald’s crewmember to fulfill an order longer than 4 minutes. The fee is timebound — McDonald’s pays a 17% to 20% fee, according to Wall Street Journal.

Mexigo, my longest running marketing client, is a true success story in Southampton, open for almost 14 years! I took over their marketing during lockdown in the summer of 2020, focusing on refining their delivery offering. By enhancing their delivery service with high-quality imagery, informative item info, and close collaboration with Deliveroo reps, orders per day on Deliveroo have surged by an impressive 400-500%. As a result of our efforts, Mexigo now ranks second in order numbers within Southampton, only behind Burger King. Their Shredded Beef burrito is the most frequently ordered item from an independent restaurant in the whole of Hampshire on Deliveroo! Despite the growth in delivery orders, Mexigo continues to serve its loyal eat-in customers, experiencing bustling lunch and dinner periods daily. It's sometimes the case that brands will opt to not focus on their delivery options, due to the high percentages that can be given away to the services providing them, and therefore it seeming counter-intuitive in the short term. Offering a good delivery service though helps to introduce customers to your product who may not ever come across your store in person, and has the power to convert them into a dining-in customer as well moving forward. The high number of returning customers speaks volumes about Mexigo's food quality, with almost everything made fresh in their kitchen, including slow-cooked meats. If you have the chance to visit in person, you'll enjoy their delectable food at a lower price, with the flexibility to customise your meal by selecting your preferred ingredients. Don't sleep on this! #southampton #foodphotography #deliveroo #marketing

If shopping, prepping and cooking food isn’t a good use of your time, copy what I do. Order from Deliveroo. Especially if you run a business, with a team, clients and family to think about. What it costs you in extra money, you’ll buy back in more time to grow your business. If you don’t like what you eat, you’ll reactive spend and/or binge on shit anyway. I have ordered from Deliveroo, virtually everyday the past 3 years - without getting out of shape. If anything, I’ve found it easier. As I stress less about food, and everything I eat tastes good (so easier to stick to eating well) If you don’t know what to order from Deliveroo to support your goals, drop me a DM now with 👉 DELIVEROO You don’t need a diet plan. You need hands on guidance with what to eat…in the real world. It’s what we do. #builttolast

The price of convenience! You place an order on Deliveroo... The total cost of 4 meals is £28. You jump to the checkout and realise that the delivery charge is £16.00 for your food to be delivered from a local takeaway restaurant less than 1 mile away. Would you pay the £44, or save £16 and collect it yourself? In other words, if the restaurant offered you a 36% discount to collect it yourself, would that tempt you? This post isn't hating on Deliveroo, they have served me well over the years. This post is to make the regular Deliveroo users aware of the savings which could be made by collecting their food, as I've noticed a "trend" in my local area which is spreading fast across all restaurants. Although there has always been a marginal difference in price compared to collection, I recently noticed that these marginal differences are becoming quite significant. After speaking to a number of local restaurants, they mentioned that due to the high commission required by Deliveroo, (20-40% of total sale in most cases) they are making larger increases to their listed prices on Deliveroo to cover this cost. Unsurprisingly, items have increased by 20-30% on the platform. The £16 mentioned isn't specifically the delivery charge, but does amount to the total cost of delivery when you consider per item price difference, service and delivery charges. See image below for a breakdown. This is live price data from one of many restaurants I could compare. I don't blame the restaurants for the price increases, and I understand that this is the Deliveroo business model, but ultimately that additional cost is simply passed on to their customers, us. There is always a price to pay for convenience, but £16 (36%) for a 2-5 minute journey is no longer a price I'm personally willing to pay. Have you noticed the prices creeping up in your area? Be sure to compare the Deliveroo Vs Collection prices of your local restaurants, you may be pleasantly surprised 😁
