Have you ever tried the Peter Skillman Marshmallow Challenge? It's a team-building game that challenges teams to build the tallest possible freestanding tower that can support a marshmallow at its peak. Our Director of Culture and Talent, Meredith Pond, PHR, SHRM-SCP had our team members compete at last week's State of the Company meeting. Here's what we learned—when people focus too much on building a perfect structure (assuming the marshmallow is light) things tend to collapse at the last minute. So, it's important to spot those hidden assumptions in our projects and give prototypes a shot early in the game. Here's a handy link if you'd like instructions to try it with your team too: https://lnkd.in/gmSF7G6 #teambuilding

Teams that play together, stay together. Or something. Well, we believe away days are a great opportunity to connect and deepen working relationships. Ostensibly that’s the purpose of the annual PLOTT summer day out. But also laughter, silliness, bonding and, um … cocktails? This year's destination was lovely Manchester, with a trip to The Cube (as seen on TV) at Urban Playground UK. If you've not seen it, it's a series of challenges set inside a glass cube. Each task involves either problem-solving, concentration, or memory skills. And a good deal of laughter. Isn’t this just what the PLOTT team does every day? Yes, but with cocktails. After all that hard work, it was only right to top it off with Brunch at Turtle Bay. And more cocktails. And more laughter. We’re a happy bunch. In the end our business is all about teamwork. And we love to show them how much their efforts are appreciated. #TeamWork #BrandingWithBalls #BottomlessBrunch

Culture : The Heartbeat of Punch Culture isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the lifeblood of Punch. It’s reflected in how we communicate, collaborate, and support one another every day. Our culture fosters a sense of belonging, trust, and innovation that truly sets us apart. In 2023, when Punch faced just 2 months of runway, every team member made the selfless decision to go on furlough. This collective sacrifice extended our runway to 6 months, giving us the time we needed to stabilize and thrive. During that period, the team worked day and night, non-stop, to accomplish the seemingly impossible task of launching the first version of Punch in just 3 months 🚀💪. I remember the sacrifices, compromises, and relentless efforts made to keep this company alive, and they continue to inspire our journey forward. So proud working in an environment where everyone feels valued, empowered, and inspired to contribute their best. Let's create a workplace that’s not just about work—but a place where we all thrive. 🌱 #CompanyCulture #Teamwork #Innovation

Very well written Hiral Jain! Reflecting on Resilience and the Power of Teamwork: The journey we undertook at Punch in 2023 is a testament to what true teamwork and culture can achieve. Being part of a team that selflessly chose to go on furlough to extend our runway wasn't just a sacrifice; it was a commitment to each other and our shared vision. I vividly remember the tireless efforts, and the unwavering belief that we could turn things around—and we did. In a very short time, we achieved what seemed impossible, launching the first version of Punch. 🚀💪 This experience has been a powerful reminder that a thriving workplace isn’t just about hitting targets; it’s about creating a space where everyone feels valued, empowered, and driven to give their best. Proud to be part of a culture where resilience, innovation, and mutual support aren’t just words, but lived experiences. Here’s to building workplaces where we don’t just work, but truly thrive together. 🌱 #Leadership #StartupLife #TeamCulture #Resilience

In the last five weeks at Punch-Creative, we've commenced our five-step plan to embed our vision and values 🚀 📖 1️⃣ Understand By engaging in team workshops and the 'values blitz', we've deepened our understanding and commitment to our values. 2️⃣ Display We're proudly displaying our values throughout the office and on our documents, reinforcing their importance in every aspect of our work and culture. 3️⃣ Live We're not just discussing our values, we're embedding them into our processes and demonstrating them in our actions, ensuring they're not just words but guiding everything we do. 4️⃣ Maintain Maintaining our values involves continual learning, effective onboarding, sharing and celebrating successes, and feedback into our practices. 5️⃣ Convey Conveying our values externally involves consistently showcasing our behaviours and maintaining a tone of voice that reflects our principles and beliefs. A big thank you to the team for getting on board and taking part 🫶 #PunchValuesBlitz #CompanyCulture #TeamSpirit #ValuesMatter

The Memorial Day BBQ is Calling My Name 🍔🌭 I can practically smell the burgers on the grill! The Memorial Day BBQ is calling my name, but if you’re like many of the people I talk with, there are a few things you might need to tackle before being ready to relax: 1. Filling a 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲: It's time to find the right person to step into this crucial position. 2. Delivering some 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸: A challenging conversation is on the horizon, but it's essential to help my team grow. 3. Reflecting, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴, and replanning the rest of the quarter: Taking a step back to refine my game plan so we can crush our goals. Does any of this resonate with you? If so, let's get to work before the summer gets here. Schedule a 𝟵𝟶-𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 with me today (link in the comments) and together, we'll pave the way for a smoother, carefree summer, where you can focus on enjoying the slower pace that comes with summer. Online Business Manager & Operations Extraordinaire | Helping Entrepreneurs Market their Magic Behind the Scenes
As hosts Liz Disterhoft and I had a front-row seat to witness transformation unfold before our eyes in this company’s team building FIREWALK experience. My favorite moment in this video? Witnessing a team member who had initially declared "Absolutely not for me" do a spontaneous happy dance after conquering the fire (for his SECOND time) 😉. That's the magic of firewalks – breaking down barriers, defying expectations, and fostering a sense of unity and accomplishment. But the real magic happens beyond the flames. Back in the workplace, you’ll see the ripple effects of this shared experience. Communication will become more open, collaboration will flourish, and trust among team members will reach new heights. Hosting firewalks isn't just about the adrenaline rush or the spectacle – it's about creating an environment where individuals can push past their limits, support each other, and emerge stronger together. So cheers to this woman-owned company and her fearless team, who showed us the true power of embracing the fire – not just as individuals, but as a united force ready to take on whatever challenges come their way in life AND at work 👏❤️🔥🎉 #companyevent #teambuilding #firewalk #empowerment #lightleaders #teambonding #companyculture

OWL Eyes on me! I'm honored to share this post as the newest OWL in the parliament. My name is Haley Stoltzman and I joined OWL in 2022 as the Business Operations Manager. I come from a background in software project management and small business operations. While I don’t have the exciting origin stories of our owners/founders (please scroll down on our page to read the true stories of how OWL came about), I do have a short Q&A style post! What's the best piece of advice you've received that has guided your professional journey? “Follow the leader, not the money.” This piece of advice was given to me by my first professional mentor at JBS. He emphasized that if I found a company/leader with a vision I believed in, to stick with them and learn and grow (and the money eventually follows). I’ve really taken the advice to heart and have had such a rewarding career working for software start-ups, starting a company with my husband and now working for OWL. Really being invested in a team and vision makes each day so fulfilling and I’m so proud to say that I work with an amazing team here at OWL. What aspect of your business brings you the most joy and fulfillment? When colleagues ask me “Hey, can we get a report on X?” or “Do you have the number of Y?” and I can say YES. I am a big believer in process, data and transparency and I feel that I am doing my job well when I’m able to share clear insights with the team. What's your favorite type of music to play in the office to stay motivated and focused? I always have music on in the background as I work (work from home can get quiet!) and I’ve really been enjoying country classics. How do you like to spend time outside of work? I love spending time with my husband, our 4 children and dog. We really enjoy getting out into the great Colorado outdoors with (very short) hikes and lots of time at the park. Cooking, mountain biking and yoga are some other ways I like to kick back when time allows.

In his Relay AMA from ’20, GoSquared’s co-founder and CEO, James Gill, wrote thoughtfully about the three pivotal junctures that “if made differently would almost certainly mean the company wouldn’t exist today.” Today is a day as great as any to be revisiting those and other insightful notes from James — hiring senior people, being power users of their own product, shaping a profitable, long-run business, and more — as they mark 18 years (👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽) in business: https://lnkd.in/gbBFrFUv
