Leadership Sacramento is an invaluable program through the Sacramento Metro Chamber that develops and grows our region’s civic and business leaders. Given the program's impact on the capital region, we were thrilled to sponsor Communications Day! Our Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, Lindsey Goodwin, co-chaired the day with Yessenia Anderson along with our Partner and President Julie Phillips and Director Rachael DiCicco, who provided perspective on the changing media landscape, crafting effective messaging and the importance of leveraging trusted messengers. It was an incredible day that concluded with a behind-the-scenes tour and talk about multicultural media at Univision.

CEO Concordant Healthcare Solutions, Inc., Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, Certified Patient Experience Professional, Nationally Recognized SME for Health Equity
We include compelling historical events and analyses throughout our Human-centered leadership courses to help our learners align those events with contemporary events that affect the healthcare experience of people and communities of color. Here is an example of an event we include: The case of Simkins v. Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is a landmark legal battle that significantly advanced the cause of civil rights in the realm of healthcare. Challenging and ultimately changing the discriminatory practices of hospitals that received federal funding helped pave the way for the desegregation of healthcare facilities in the United States. The formal apology issued by Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital to the Simkins plaintiffs underscores the ongoing process of reconciliation and the importance of acknowledging and addressing past injustices to move forward. Ignoring problems has never solved them. Polarization and division in the United States have escalated to a level that jeopardizes our domestic strength. At Future Caucus, we are dedicated to bridge-building, activating young leaders to overcome toxic polarization, with Future Summit South serving as a vehicle for this mission. Building and maintaining enduring, person-to-person relationships across differences, and redefining our common purpose, is essential for progress. Watch our recap video to see how we are making a difference. #FutureSummit #MillenialsinPolitics
Last month, we hosted our first-ever regional convening, Future Summit South, in Atlanta, Georgia, because what matters in the South differs from what matters in the Northeast or the Pacific Northwest. Lawmakers from eight states, representing both political parties, joined us in Atlanta. Over the course of the weekend, we had the opportunity to connect and learn about the Southern legislative experience, priorities, and challenges on a deeper level while engaging in community-building, policy discussions, and leadership training. Get a glimpse into Future Summit South and the work Gen Z and millennial lawmakers are doing across the region by watching the video below, and apply today to join us for our national Future Summit next month in Washington, DC! https://lnkd.in/eiXQ9ef8

Earlier this month I had the privilege of speaking at the WILD Network's annual Women’s Global Leadership Forum in Washington, DC alongside U.S. Global Leadership Coalition Board Member Paul Weisenfeld on “How to Make the Case for Global Development.” We had a robust conversation with a group of very committed C-Suite executives in this field and in our network, and I shared some insights that I have learned over the years (sometimes the hard way... but I hope always with grace) when it comes to effective issue advocacy: 1. We have to make sure we aren’t just talking to ourselves, and push beyond our natural communities. For those of us in DC, we need to take our message “on the road”—i.e. outside of the Beltway. 2. Skepticism is not a bad thing; it means people are still willing to listen, learn and make decisions or form opinions. Your responsibility is to seize the opportunity and provide the relevant information to make your case. 3. Your message needs to meet the moment—and the audience. This is especially true when we talk about global development. It requires doing homework to understand what the connections are between your issue and your audience and framing your message within that context. You can’t make your case successfully unless you can make it relevant. 4. Finally, finding some sort of common ground is almost always possible. Do not let “perfection be the enemy of good.” Be willing to find common points of interest and work from there.

One of my favorite parts of this conversation with Jim Clark, my friend, mentor, and a volunteer powerhouse with the Southern Maine Agency On Aging, are his insights about inviting volunteer perspectives, ideas, and suggestions, and how to handle feedback with grace and appreciation when an idea can't be implemented. A great conversation full of thoughtful reflections from the perspective of an experienced leadership volunteer. I hope you'll enjoy this conversation as much as I did! https://lnkd.in/eqYDZKzv
