Hyper competition Competition can come from your own country or overseas, as all markets are global markets today. Competition can also come from outside your category of business (e.g. Google Wallet and Apple Pay compete with bank services). Disruptive start-ups (like Uber and Airbnb) can come out of anywhere at any time once they see an opportunity to use data more cleverly (this will perhaps occur increasingly frequently with AI). You must improve or get left behind. Platform companies are investing in data, AI, IoT and other tools to improve operations, assets, customer experiences and competitive positions. It’s happening. Look around you. Amazon is busily wiping out the traditional high street. Then we have BAT (Chinese major players) platform companies Baidu, Alibaba (who own AliPay with its 500 million customers) and Tencent (who own WeChat with its one billion customers). These superapps help you to buy, pay, use, consume just about everything in China. Is there a sector that Amazon, Apple, Google or BAT could not enter? You have simply got to keep improving as existing and new competitors will be continually improving. 2025 prediction: the end of OpenAI dominance. xAI will obliterate the competition, closely followed by Google. Grok 3 is believed to be significantly better than Sonnet 3.5 and O1. Google, which I constantly dissed in 23’/24’ (sorry), has redeemed itself with very impressive features that they can provide for free. Meta is also on my radar. Zuck is a wartime CEO. I do think they will win the wearables battle. Apple is getting too complacent. In the meantime, the Grok app just dropped in 🇨🇦. I expect Grok 3 to drop sometime next week. Hold on to your Nasdaq. This year is for the books.

I’m a big believer in “Local AI”, i.e. running an AI model embedded on your phone or other device, instead of accessing it through the cloud. Why? - 🔌 Availability: Works offline, not dependent on internet connectivity. - 🔒 Privacy: sensitive data never leaves your device. - ⚡️ “Speed”: less latency by processing data directly on the device, BUT a smaller device is also slower at loading and running a large language model. - ☘️ Environment: less power usage, less CO₂.
