𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭: Stereotypies are considered to be repetitive movements or sounds that do not vary and seem to have no end goal or obvious function. In humans, stereotypies can include body rocking, head nodding, finger tapping, or more complex movements such as arm and hand flapping, waving, or pacing. Although the causes of stereotypic behaviour are often unknown, they often tend to be caused by the animal’s repeated attempts to adapt to their environment. We want a focused start after the dog indicates an article in the track. Especially for hard surface tracking. To get that smooth transition we reward the dog but let the article stay on the ground. After the reward we start up the dog by removing the same article. We can do it quick or slow depending on what intensity we want. The movement we do when we pick up the article is very similar to the start signal we use in general for detection and tracking. Removing the article automatically puts the dog in search mode. Adding Compassionate Inquiry as a skillset to my clinic is enhancing every interaction with every client. The reasons why we do what we do are so much more complex that we know. Helping clients to uncover the underlying drivers behind their behaviour and just being with it, allowing the emotions to be, be felt, and released, is one of the most powerful processes I have seen. Last night I went to see All of Us Strangers. I would call that film a piece of art, not just a film. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. In my training in Compassionate Inquiry I have been delving into the inner child and trauma and how we carry the impact as adults and how it informs and often drives our behaviour and reactions. Nature's Predators: Spider vs Bee I recently witnessed an awe-inspiring video of a spider spinning a bee into a silky cocoon! The spider's strategy was both fascinating and intense: 1. Stealthy approach 2. Lightning-fast strike 3. Spinning the bee or Spinning the bee into a silk cocoon 4. Fatal bite (not shown in the video, but a part of the spider's natural behavior) The spider's spinning behavior is a remarkable display of its survival instincts. By wrapping the bee in silk, the spider: - Immobilizes its prey - Prevents escape - Creates a safe and secure food source - Showcases its impressive silk-spinning skills!
