Today is International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD), a worldwide initiative to improve awareness of level crossing safety. Appropriately, today Aurizon has launched their major national level crossing community education and awareness campaign, Respect the sign. Lives are on the line. The campaign is told through the eyes of those directly impacted by level crossing events, with a goal to raise awareness about the importance of level crossing safety, among motorists, truck drivers, pedestrians and local communities. Also in recent weeks, the Australian Government launched their own national advertising campaign as part of its commitment to improve safety around regional railway crossings. The campaign raises awareness of the importance of being cautious around regional railway crossings, emphasising the message to ‘Slow down. Look. Listen for trains.’ "It's great to see all the recent work being undertaken within the rail industry with broader road safety efforts in mind. It serves as an important reminder that level crossing safety is multifaceted, and that everyone, including road and rail, need to come together to enact change." - Damien White, RISSB CEO. At RISSB, we will continue to support important level crossing safety campaigns like these, as we continue our own work towards optimizing the safety benchmark for level crossings in Australia through the development of our supporting Standards, Codes, and Guidelines. 6th of June is International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD). Awareness of safety on level crossings is an increasingly important topic and the majority of level crossings worldwide are still unprotected. We are proud to be part of this event in Buenos Aires and being able to raise awareness. This year’s target audience is vulnerable rail users, under the slogan "Beware of trains - Life can change in a split second”. In Wavetrain, our mission is to reduce risk at the most critical ones – the unprotected level crossings. This risk is common for all countries with railroad. Our recipe for this is our innovative and intelligent solution that reduce risk fast, at low cost and in high volumes. Because the challenge here is to do this in scale. We are ready for exciting days discussing level crossing safety in Argentina! This #RailSafetyWeek TasRail is proud to launch its 2024 level crossing safety campaign. Every year we've shown you the stats, we've shown you the videos and still this keeps on happening. Not only have the reported instances of level crossing failure to stop or give way by Tasmanian road users almost doubled in the 2023-24 reporting period, but we also saw a very serious collision at Westbury and serious motor vehicle track obstruction at Stoney Rise. So, we want to know ... What’s it going to take? This is the first in a series of videos where TasRail team members share their personal stories to remind the Tasmanian public that the poor choices that they are making in the rail corridor and at level crossings don’t just affect them. Today is International Level Crossing Awareness Day 🚉 This day aims to bring awareness to the dangers associated with railway-level crossings. When approaching a level crossing, always slow down and look and listen for trains, especially in the country where there might not be boom gates or flashing lights. You should never drive onto a level crossing if a train is coming or if the other side is blocked. You must not drive through a level crossing until the signals have stopped flashing and the gates or boom gates are fully open. Always remember these tips when approaching a level crossing, whether you’re in a vehicle or a pedestrian. www.roadsense.org.au #roadsense #roadsenseau #roadsafety #ilcad

Director of Communications & CSR, Nissan | Communications & Crisis Mitigation Specialist I Strategic Advisory, Government Advocacy & Public Policy
Brightline Trains is changing the way Americans are using public transit & now they are trying to build more private railway lines outside of Florida where they have gained enormous success. This is a stupendous effort & wonderful case study for so many countries still struggling to build railway infrastructure along side roadways & civil aviation. I am quite keen to sample the Orlando line that they have built which I am told is awesome & has been greatly appreciated by the citizens of Florida. The US remains a pioneer in railways, but thanks to policies, it has taken a back seat & it has no high speed line. If Brightline can create new networks, it can become a great feeder to the interstate bus network, civil aviation and of course Amtrak which still is forced to use freight lines to run their passenger network across the country. Cars are extremely important for last mile connectivity, privacy, & family travel where there is no public transit. But so are trains & planes to create a complete public transit ecosystem for a country as BIG as the US. And the Brightline example is pure innovation. Using "right of way" they have reduced land acquisition issues to create a line parallel to interstate networks! Fascinating policy applications for real world solutions using private funding. Kudos to Patrick Goddard and his team, I cannot wait to see what's next & as a fellow #planes, #trains & #automobiles geek, I wish them the best. #publicaffairs #publicpolicy #transportation #urbantransport #urbantransit #interstate #intercity #policymaking #policyanalysis #railwayindustry #railwayinfrastructure #railwayinnovation #urbaninfrastructure
