HAS THE YEAR OF THE LAGER BEEN HERE ALL ALONG? For 10 years or so we've seen a recurring annual prediction that "The Year of the Lager" will soon be upon us. But we've got to ask: When has it ever not been the year of the lager? We sat down with some of craft beer's brightest minds at Schilling Beer Co., Headless Mumby Brewing, and Bad Weather Brewing Company to find out: is double-decocted the new double dry-hopped? Head to the RahrBSG blog for the whole conversation 👉 https://bit.ly/3zejM5c #rahrbsg #lager #craftlager #lagerbeer

From my perspective (in the SF Bay Area) when Firestone Walker's Pivo hit the market, it created quite an uptick of interest in lagers. Maybe it was coincidence, or maybe that one beer got people excited about a more delicate (yet equally complex) hop experience. I mean, they certainly weren't the only Pilsner in our land (I had been making a flagship Pils at Social Kitchen & Brewery for about a year before Pivo hit, and Moonlight had been making flagship lagers steadily since the early 90's to name a few), but Pivo did provide a lot of exposure to "craft lager" if you want to call it that. So... for the next 11 years it's been a steady increase in market over here, and I can't think of a local brewery that doesn't make one at this point. I think the "year of the lager" happened around 2018 or so. Another good metric could be when the "German Style Pils" category surpassed 100 entries at GABF. I'm guessing that was around the same time.

The thing about logger is the time it takes to produce it when you can make a good Kolsch in less than half the time and believe me I know about logger working for Yellowhead brewery and only producing loggers with good old German mall doing natural carbonation shelf life was not that long but was a good drinkable beer
