Rev. Wylie Hughes and I discuss: - The Black-Jewish Alliance - what happened to it and how to revive it? - Public Discourse - can civil conversation return to civic life? - The illiberal Left - can we revive liberalism among progressives? The answers - only when we pull apart the Gordian knot of White Supremacy, American misogyny and patriarchy, and anti-Indigenous genocide, for a start. https://lnkd.in/engUqNiW

Absolutely and be willing to have these conversations with children in general. I personally suggest "Something Happend in Our Town" on racial injustice from 2 families perspectives. Librarians and Teachers include displays on "Tough Topics", "Decolonizing Thanksgiving", diverse representation all year round and not just on featured months like "Black history is U.S. History". There are HUGE gaps in children's books still and needs to be filled despite the rise of ongoing book bans throughout the nation. What books do you recommend and how do you help fill the gap?
We need more books for children that use words like justice, ally, freedom, advocate, colonialism, appropriation and reconciliation ✊🏽

The Four Freedoms | Freedom for Virtue Political freedom relies on the virtue and morality of citizens, as emphasized by historical figures like Livy, Jefferson, and Mill. True freedom involves self-mastery and the pursuit of virtues such as family fidelity, self-control, humility, and toleration. These virtues reduce the need for external governance, support strong communities, and preserve a truly free and flourishing society. https://lnkd.in/gmbXHN9t

What kind of choices might be on the table in the midst of this historically troublesome election cycle? As we enter the deeper fight against contemporary racism, authoritarianism, and the threat of 1000 heavily armed white nationalist militia groups.... what should we do to defend the limited freedom we have and move forward to the complete liberation we need and deserve? I think we need to use this brilliant post below to start a conversation about choices that prepare us for the monumental challenges on the horizon. What good choices can we create for ourselves? How do we keep from choosing between bad and worse? How can we set the stage to win perpetually? How can we help each other think bigger? Please read the post below that Rendel Solomon shared which inspired my questions. Be well, be advised.

Nikki Haley made a mess. Part of the job of running for president is being able to think on your feet and answer weird questions that come out of the blue. Enemies are always looking to trip you up. Voters want to see how you handle yourself under fire. It’s a necessary skill to answer with aplomb.Copyright ©2023 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. The more you learn about the scale of the problem and its harrowing impact on victims, the more determined you become in tackling it. It’s one of the most gruesome examples of exploitation happening across the world. The fact that it often happens in plain sight, literally next door to you should make us all think. Modern Slavery should become a compulsory element of any safeguarding training delivered to all sectors. Children should be educated as well. Spotting the signs of it isn’t that difficult. But it takes collective effort to make it as difficult as possible for the perpetrators. #modernslavery #humantraffickingawareness #exploitation #humanrightswatch
Celebrating a major victory in Smethwick – a testament to the strength of our collective efforts. Huge thanks to everyone involved in bringing justice in this pivotal case. Your dedication and hard work have truly made a difference. Well done to all! Let’s keep up the momentum in our ongoing fight against modern slavery. https://lnkd.in/e3pdUCHR
