According to a 2024 report from the Public Religion Research Institute, nearly 30% of Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ+. When we talk about what it looks like to support and care for the next generations of our LGBTQ+ community, it is imperative that we recognize the unique needs of our young people who are coming of age in an era of more visibility than ever before—and a hostile political climate. We need to continue to make sure that LGBTQ+ young people are connected with supportive programs and services, both at school and in their local community, that can help them navigate their identities. We will continue to fight for full lived and legal equality so that LGBTQ+ young people learn about rather than experience discrimination in the classroom. #LGBTQ #Equality #ProtectLGBTQYouth #LGBTQYouth

This #PrideMonth our Social Media feeds and workplaces have shown an encouraging amount of visibility and support for our Pride community. However, GLAAD has reminded us that fair and accurate representation in media and journalism have a powerful and measurable effect on the lives of #LGBTQ people. What we watch on TV tends to mirror our current views, ideas, aspirations, fears, and concerns; so, while support for LGBTQ has reached an all-time high, we’re concerned to hear about LGBTQ-inclusive series being cancelled or abruptly ending after one or two seasons. Of the 468 LGBTQ TV characters counted in a recent GLADD study, at least 170 will not return next year, with 24% percent of those due to series cancellations or endings.   We support the call to action and for unity, to boldly stand up and speak out for the rights, freedoms and dignities of LGBTQ people, families and allies everywhere. #LGBTQInclusion #PrideMonth2024 #DiversityAndInclusion

In honor of #pridemonth2024, I wanted to share some relevant financial and estate planning guidance throughout the month: 13. Draft a funeral directive for managing end-of-life wishes. All individuals deserve to have their wishes for their burial, funeral, cremation, and end-of-life care be honored. LGBTQ individuals may wish to execute a funeral or burial advanced directive to appoint someone to manage these affairs, and designate specific wishes in order to minimize conflict at their death. State law may vary so it may make sense to discuss with an attorney, especially if you spend significant amount of time in multiple states. LGBTQ+ individuals, and many others, might value privacy so discussing how to effect their wishes may be an important conversation. From Marsha P. Johnson's fearless activism during the Stonewall Riots to Bayard Rustin's strategic brilliance in organizing the 1963 March on Washington, and James Baldwin's eloquent critiques of race and sexuality—these trailblazers have paved the way for the freedoms we cherish today. 🔍 Key Highlights: Marsha P. Johnson: Co-founder of the Gay Liberation Front and STAR, advocating for homeless LGBTQ+ youth and sex workers. Bayard Rustin: Close advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and key organizer of the historic 1963 March on Washington. James Baldwin: Brilliant writer and social critic whose works like "The Fire Next Time" challenged racism and homophobia, fostering greater empathy and understanding. As we mark the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a doctrine written to recognize that every person has inherent dignity and inalienable rights. Yet, while more progress has been made than ever to ensure equal rights for every single person, we continue to witness discrimination, dehumanization, and defamation of LGBTQ+ folks around the world. At a time where many LGBTQ+ young people still live in daily fear of persecution and violence, we stand firmly together with fellow advocates, allies, and the global LGBTQ+ community to bring life-saving resources to for queer and trans young people who are still not able to live fully and authentically. Queer, trans, intersex, and ace young people everywhere deserve love, freedom, justice, acceptance, and inclusion. Borders and barriers should not negate belonging. Friendly reminder: LGBTQ+ young people deserve to feel safe and respected in school 🌈 That’s why we created our guide for Creating Safe Spaces in School for LGBTQ+ Young People, aimed at giving allies resources to signal to LGBTQ+ young people that you are a safe person to turn to. While the majority of young people spend most of their waking hours in school, the education system can be a challenging place to navigate and explore identity for LGBTQ+ young people — especially if they experience harassment, discrimination, and lack of support &  resources. Our allies provide important support for LGBTQ young people, especially in the face of increased marginalization. It’s up to teachers, administrators, and fellow students to find ways to show support, because the costs can be devastating.
