AUSTRALIAN SKILLS PASSPORT SYSTEM to CONNECT WORKERS and EMPLOYERS The federal government has introduced a commendable initiative: "With a passport, you can travel; with a skills passport, you can secure employment". However, the specifics of this program are still in the early stages of development and have yet to be finalised. Nevertheless, it promises to offer a valuable platform for skilled professionals to gain recognition and connect through a nationwide skills passport system…” remarked Wee-Oon Chief Executive from OZemployment. This passport system aims to facilitate workers in showcasing their comprehensive qualifications, micro-credentials, prior educational achievements, workplace experience, and general proficiencies. Under this proposal, a professional worker's qualifications would be securely stored in a digital format, much like My Health Record national system. Furthermore, it is anticipated to unify various reform initiatives, including changes to the migration system, under a single overarching framework. "The positive impact is achieved through the sharing of data among professionals and employers. However, when we look at skills data for a group or population, its significance grows even further. It helps gain insights into employment requirements, formulating effective policies, and devising more informed plans” … adds Wee-Oon OZemployment.com.au focuses on addressing professional skilled labour shortages and in the past year, has conducted extensive research on the top 150+ in demand job categories, with 300,000+ available positions across Australia. #OZemployment #SkilledLabour #SkilledEmployment #Diversity #Equality https://lnkd.in/e8-AvS29 https://lnkd.in/ghKXk8RA

Last week, the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), brought together nearly 200 participants at our 𝐔 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 Function Centre. The day began with a powerful Welcome to Country performed by Aunty Suzanne Russell and a performance by Katie Aspel. Representatives from various organisations and First Nations job seekers engaged in discussions about employment opportunities, skill development, and had the chance to connect directly with potential employers. Our Uniting Communities team showcased our programs and services, particularly those aimed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. One of our key Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) commitments is to increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff representation at UC. Events like this are crucial for achieving this goal by providing direct referral and connection opportunities, enhancing our reputation for genuine commitment and inclusive recruitment practices. Michael from our People & Culture team shared his experience: "𝐼 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑒𝑛𝑗𝑜𝑦𝑒𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑊𝑒𝑙𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝐶𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑦; 𝑖𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝐼 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑛 𝑎𝑛 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑊𝑒𝑙𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝐶𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑦. A huge thanks to our Cultural Development managers and Aboriginal Community Connect, for their outstanding representation of our services. As Aboriginal leaders at Uniting Communities, their commitment to promote the organisation as an employer of choice and to highlight the available opportunities is vital. #Diversity #FirstNations #Employment #Skills #UnitingCommunities #ReconciliationActionPlan #Inclusion #CommunityImpact

I do this Aboriginal employment thing differently (explanation...) As you can tell, I'm a little bit obsessed with Aboriginal employment. Or more specifically helping not for profit leaders grow their Aboriginal workforce. And I think about it a little differently to most... WARNING: There's a chance I could get on my high horse about this. Most people have one or two go-to Aboriginal employment strategies: They put "Aboriginal people are encouraged to apply" in their job ads (and wonder why it's not working). Or, if it's an 'identified' role, they call and email every Aboriginal person they know to ask if they know anyone who can do the job. Ummm, the first is simply not going to work. And, the second sounds like A LOT of work. There's an easier way. BUT - we dont have time for that today, so I'll drip you some posts over the next few days/weeks to show you my approach. Watch out for it, the first line will be 'If Aboriginal employment is NOT about hustle and hope...?'. (And, you don't need to be a large organisation or have a big budget). #Blakworks #AboriginalEmployment #AboriginalWorkforce

At Pinpoint Property Recruitment, we are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace. A recent study utilizing the Indigenous Jobs Map, an Indigenous-led project supported by CSIRO and other organizations, sheds light on the challenges and opportunities in improving employment outcomes for Indigenous Australians. Key insights from the study include: ◾Geographic Mismatch: There's a significant disparity between regions with high demand for Indigenous workers and those with a high supply of Indigenous workers. ◾Limited Job Diversity: Most job ads targeting Indigenous candidates are in public administration, health care, and education, sectors that do not fully align with the qualifications held by many Indigenous workers. ◾Educational Alignment: There's a need for better alignment between job opportunities and the educational pathways commonly chosen by Indigenous peoples. Efforts to increase higher educational qualifications among Indigenous Australians are crucial. What Can We Do? ◾ Align workforce strategies with the locations and qualifications of Indigenous peoples. ◾Engage Indigenous students early and connect directly with communities. ◾Promote higher education to increase the number of Indigenous people with advanced qualifications. By understanding and addressing these mismatches, employers can better tailor their workforce strategies, leading to more inclusive and effective recruitment practices. Remote work and early engagement with Indigenous students can also play vital roles in bridging these gaps. At Pinpoint Property Recruitment, we believe that every effort counts in making the job market more inclusive for all. Let's work together to ensure that Indigenous talent is not only welcomed but thrives across all sectors!
