The Australian Honours and Awards system celebrates individuals who make outstanding contributions locally, nationally and internationally. There is a lot of diversity within the recognition, but all Order of Australia recipients have one thing in common – someone nominated them for recognition. No one, no matter who they are or what they have done, can be recognised unless they are nominated. So, who can nominate, and who can be nominated? Anyone in the community can nominate someone for recognition. But, the people you nominate: - Must be alive at the time of their nomination - Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident - Have had no previous recognition by the Order in the last five years If you know someone who has gone above and beyond, start the process by filling out the nomination form. You can find it here: https://bit.ly/3W3BJwF Read more about previous recipients and their recognition at this link: https://bit.ly/3W32H7N Council for the Order of Australia #OrderofAustralia #AboveandBeyond #AustralianHonoursandAwards #Inspiring

Why do women find it so difficult to nominate themselves for awards? The feedback from our judges for the Best Emerging and the Best Established Industry Professional award was 'why are there not more female entries'? So if you are new the events industry, or if have been doing it for years, take this as a sign, and nominate yourself, or someone you know for the NZEA New Zealand Event Awards. buff.ly/3zPu60k

I didn’t expect to be this moved by a basketball team—but the Tasmania JackJumpers aren’t your average team. I walked into the room not knowing much about basketball. But by the time I left, I was deeply inspired—and even wondering if I should be encouraging my boys to try out the sport. What really hit me was hearing their Head Coach, Scott Roth and Captain Clint Steindl share their heartfelt experiences about their journey to success. The connection was so real, it nearly brought me to tears. It reminded me that no matter what team or field or industry you’re in, it’s always the people who make the difference. And that’s exactly what the Tasmania JackJumpers are doing—they’re showing up for each other, on and off the court, with grit and humility. The Tasmania JackJumpers are making history as the first Oceania club to compete on the global stage at the FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2024. But what really stood out wasn’t just their game—it was their character, their community spirit, and how they rally together. After hearing their story, I can't wait to see how that same heart will translate when they hit the court. AustCham Singapore had the privilege of hosting a roundtable with a number of the Tasmania JackJumpers team members and business leaders from the AustCham Community. I was struck by three key things about their approach to success: Crystal-clear culture: Inclusion, accountability, and a safe space for vulnerability. Every player, whether on the court or off, knows their role and how it contributes to the collective. It’s not just about winning—it’s about showing up for each other. Community at their core: The Tasmania JackJumpers aren’t just a team—they’re a symbol of pride for Tasmania. They’re not just playing a game; they’re creating a movement that inspires and unites. Character with talent: Sure, talent is important. But what really sets this team apart is that they look beyond talent for character traits like integrity, ability to learn from failure, and a commitment to solid values. That builds long-term success and clear role models within the team to aspire to. Cheering you on, Tasmania JackJumpers! Thank you Hon. Will Hodgman B.A., LL.B. and Christine Finnegan for this amazing opportunity. #TeamCulture #Leadership #CommunitySpirit

In the Land of titles and awards , what's the benefit? Some pay for it, others lobby for it , and some are part of awarding schemes, they fund them only to be awarded. Many deserving citizens have been denied the recognition they deserved , but sadly what we have seen as a nation is people who are mostly awarded are those who are politically connected and those who have succeeded in draining our nation's coffers , and integrity are the ones recognised as better citizens. Little sometimes wonder if we are really serious as a nation. I'm sure we are not! We are not even ready to be one. Corrupt individuals, those who lack the slighest integrity are seen heroes and those who strides to make this nation better are not even think about. Like my mentor Umaru Fofana who made a critical comment on the last Presidential awards ; Sierra Leone's national team deserved presidential awards for taking the nation to nation's cup after more than two decades. Did they see need ? No!! Personally i would have loved to see the Presidential awards committe awarded Kei Kamara a national hero's award for scoring the goal that secured us a nation a space to take part in the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations in Cameroun in 2021. Again, there are a host of other private well meaning Sierra Leoneans that are making strides to make this British West African nation a better place for all. Alas! These fake awarding schemes and bodies target the affluent and those in high places especially in governance and private sector circles to award them in return for favours, protection and money. Yes, they collect monies from these awardees to pay for the venues where they host these programmes . Do the awardees care? In fact that's how they have suceeded in gaining fame and recognition in our society. They value title, and where has these bogus titles taken us a nation . No wonder the fake degrees reported so far across the country's top echelon by Dr. John Idriss Lahai who first broke the news about fake degree and fake titles holders existence into the country's civil service and governance structure and even the body politic of our nation. The effect of their fake titles are evident in their output , they put out releases that have so many grammatical errors and those which lacked the basic punctuation guidelines. This is pathetic! So many titles and nothing tangible to show about their awards. We are a nation that vilifies sober minded, sensible and patriotic citizens but praise sing mediocres . What a nation we are !! NB: Posted a year ago. ...................................................................... Ishmael Sallieu Koroma is a journalist based in Freetown. He writes for Pan African Visions , a media outlet based in the USA, and Agencia EFE

Australians from all over the country, with different backgrounds and contributions to their community, are recognised in the Order of Australia. And with that in mind, it’s likely there is someone in your life who deserves it, too. Recognition doesn’t happen unless someone takes the time to nominate. The process is simple and help is available. Head to the Australian Honours and Awards section of the Governor-General’s website at this link, https://bit.ly/3W3BJwF, with information including; 1. The nominees name and contact details; 2. Your name and contact details; 3. A description around why they deserve recognition; and 4. At least two referees; And nominate a deserving person you know. Your nomination is the beginning of the process. After it is submitted, an independent case officer in the Australian Honours and Awards Secretariat begins researching the nominee, before they are presented to the Council of the Order of Australia. It won’t be judged on the quality of writing, and you don’t need to know everything about the person you are nominating. It is good to include as much information as possible, even if it’s in dot point form. You can find suggested information to include and other helpful tips here: https://bit.ly/3wElHz4 To learn more about past recipients, their profiles are available to read here: https://bit.ly/3W32H7N Change someone’s life by nominating them today.
