In a great month for concerts, I just saw U2 at the Sphere in Vegas and Queen* in Denver. (* Queen with Adam Lambert.  He’s no Freddie, but he sounded great!) The ticket prices were through the roof, so I took both shows seriously and did my homework by listening to Bono’s autobiography and re-watching the Queen movie. The experience reminded me that while almost every book about teamwork uses sports teams analogies, I’ve never heard anyone use rock bands. Both of these bands exemplify the whole being greater than the sum of their parts. Freddie Mercury was convinced by a ‘handler’ to go solo, but couldn’t create the same level of quality as Queen without the pushback and give and take of his bandmates. It’s the same with U2. All members have different strengths; Bono is a great lyricist and frontman, The Edge brings a unique sound, Larry Mullen is a great drummer, and he and Adam Clayton create an excellent rhythm section. Interestingly, both bands split all the money and songwriting credits evenly, so they encourage collaboration and remove egos from the final product. Isn’t that the perfect metaphor for teamwork? Imagine how much more productive offices could be if sales and service shared new and renewal revenue more evenly. Yes, we need the Bonos and Freddies of our companies to be motivated to do their thing and be the rainmakers, but can they really be their best without the team behind them? Could a more even commission distribution ultimately increase the size of the pie and compensation to everyone by fostering better teamwork, engagement, and motivation? What do you think?

My thoughts on the recent events surrounding the cancelled Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna, shared during a live interview on ABC Morning News. While the cancellation of the concerts is undoubtedly disappointing and a form of societal harm in and of itself, especially for fans and the local community, it’s fortunate that we are discussing this in a context where no lives have been lost. In this sense, we are fortunate not to be having this conversation in the wake of a tragedy like the 2017 Manchester attacks. In the interview, I discussed how these cancellations reaffirm ASIO’s recent decision to elevate Australia’s terror threat level and emphasised the importance of viewing the fight against terrorism as a shared responsibility among intelligence agencies, private businesses, and the general public. I also highlighted the particular security challenges of Taylor Swift’s concerts, the fact that they draw large crowds that gather outside the venue, areas where security screening and access restrictions are often less stringent. This concern, of course, extends to any crowded event held in unstructured, open-access spaces.

Between the buzz of Coachella's weekends, it's crucial to take a moment to recognize the influence of this event beyond the viral moments, mainly the impact on its local community. Last year, during my Master's, I delved into the nuances of this iconic festival with my research project: 'Income Disparity at Coachella Festival: Examining the Contrast in Wealth during the Festival Period'. While my study illuminated the evident economic advantages of Coachella for the Indio community, including the boost of tourism and the increased sales for local vendors during those 2 weeks, it was equally important for me to shine a light on a crucial aspect often overlooked - the local farmworkers and surrounding low-income communities, whose stories often remain untold amidst the festival's social media glamour. As Coachella continues to shape music culture and influence younger generations, it has the power to highlight the region's dynamics, complexities and difficulties. Let's continue the conversation involving Coachella during its second weekend, not just for the festival-goers, but for the communities that surround it. In a blink of an eye Chase de Vere are 55 years old. From one single office to an office in all of the major cities in the Uk. Why is 55 so important ?? How many people are aware that from 55 onwards they can potentially access their pension?
