While on the treadmill this morning TikToking (yes, this old guy Tik-Toks), a TikTok appeared showing a public adjuster telling people how they could make money doing “virtual adjusting from home”. Obviously I watched it. Wow.  No wonder Texas has gone from 77 public adjusters in 2004 to almost 1800 today. The TikTok video boasted that people could make $250k a year sitting at home and doing everything virtually. People were encouraged to go to https://lnkd.in/gceimd8e to learn more.  And sure enough, that’s what the website says… ~~~ Can Be Totally Virtual Our entry level claim reps get a lot of support so they can earn while they learn. We give each rep an experienced field adjuster to do the estimating and negotiating to settle the claim. ~~~ Yes, you read that right.  The Insurance Claim College will teach you to become a public adjuster that virtually signs up clients and then allow others to do the “estimating and negotiating to settle the claim”. Hmmmmm. So the public adjuster delegates negotiation of their claims to someone else. I don’t think that’s legal in Texas. But wait! It gets even better: ~~~ Mentor as many new adjusters as you want. Earn about $250 in profit share each time a licensed adjuster you mentored helps a homeowner. You can build an empire of home insurance fiduciaries.               -10 claims per month from adjusters you mentored is an additional $30k a year in passive income.              -Claims written by adjusters you mentored count toward your volume bonus numbers and profit share. ~~~ Hmmmmmm. Profit share? So the public adjuster handling a claim shares their commission with someone not involved in the claim. I don’t think that’s legal in Texas either. But, in their defense, buried in the fine print it does say… “Special considerations in TX [and some other states].” Get-rich-quick multi-level marketing schemes like this have no business in the public adjusting PROFESSION. We had a great discussion at the First Party Claims Conference about raising the bar in the public adjusting PROESSION. I hope we can continue that dialogue.
