Financial Services Director at Tuan | Multi-Million Dollar Agency Award Winner 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2021, 2022 | The Premier Association of Financial Professionals Qualifier| Let's talk (Info Below 👇)
It’s a night of celebration for our group of First Time Qualifiers (FTQs)!👏 I remember standing on this same stage 22 years ago. But what I learned that day, and have come to truly appreciate since, is that success isn’t just about standing on that stage. It’s also about: —> the journey that got you there —> the growth —> the challenges, and most importantly —> the people who walk alongside you —> the late nights and early mornings —> the conversations —> the choices you make when no one’s watching It’s your consistency that turns ambition into achievement, and your values that turn success into significance. Seeing this new generation of FTQs reminds me that the traditions we hold dear are what truly keep us rooted and united. My message to the FTQs: This is just the beginning. Your qualification is a testament to your dedication, but it’s the start of something much bigger. 🌱Keep moving forward. 🌱Stay grounded in your values. 🌱And remember, we rise together. Congratulations to all our FTQs! 🎉👏 #StarClubQualifier #TogetherasONE #HardWorkPaysOff #GrowthMindset #InspiringLeaders

Anyone who has ever had the privilege to hear Desmond speak, work alongside him, or benefit from his mentoring support will recognise that this nomination is so very deserved. Having worked with Desmond Skyers since 2018, and learnt so much from him and his journey, seen the impact that he has had on improving the life chances of so many CYP and their families, and alongside his unwavering support for both colleagues & professionals. Desmond is a true advocate for at-risk and vulnerable children and young people; he is a champion of recognising and valuing lived experience to engage children, young people, and professionals. His impact is best captured by some of those Desmond has supported: “Desmond has taught me how to involve myself in my community in a better way, both at school and outside. It’s easier in school, we know the environment and as we improve, we can try to change our environment for the better.” (Mentee) “I wanted friends, I just wanted to fit in but now I want to be that student who achieves high grades, inspires others. Everything is different now, Desmond has made me review everything, what’s important and what matters to me.” (Mentee) “I was referred in year eight [now in year 10] for misbehaviour, talking, being late to school. Des has taught me to think before I act. I always ask myself, what advice would my mentor have?” (Mentee) “I one hundred percent think differently since I started seeing him. One time, [something happened] and I started getting really angry….but I thought, if I lash out, I will probably get arrested and then that defines the whole thing. I thought I don’t want my mum or [mentor] to go through that pain so I left empty handed. Before I would have lashed out, no question.” (Mentee) “Desmond has one hundred percent made a difference to me, opened my eyes. I understand consequences now, I distance myself, I want to better myself. I have more self-respect and understand my actions better. I think about my future now.” (Mentee) “You learn to just pause and think, what am I going to do next? More thinking, less doing.” (Mentee) “They (mentees) have just gained more knowledge and thought about their actions a bit more. For the more key players it’s the push pull factors and I guess the influences out there that are much stronger than family or school but they’ve still got the information and if they don’t act on it now, they will draw on it as they get older.” (Staff member) “If not for Desmond and the mentoring, my son wouldn’t be alive today.” (Parent of mentee) Please drop him a quick vote! #champion #education #empowerment #mentoring #lifechances #resilience #criticalthinking St Giles Youth Endowment Fund

One of the main things we hear from those who have been nominated for the #HFMAAwards is how much just receiving a nomination can mean to teams and individuals. Whether you win or not, just knowing that your peers and colleagues value the work you do and have taken the time to nominate can be extremely powerful and unifying.

Congratulations to the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' staff involved for their achievements being recognised. But "embodying the IFoA's core values"? What are the IFoA's core values when the IFoA defends religious texts that advocate serious crimes (including wife beating, child marriage, rape and slavery) against criticism? When the IFoA withholds important data (such as the number of new students joining, the student dropout rate, the numbers of students investigated for suspected cheating/found guilty each year, the amount of money spent on litigation and overseas travel), not only from the public, but even from its own members? When the IFoA holds a conference in Riyadh, 15 minutes from a place where thousands of people have been beheaded, flogged or maimed in recent years? When the IFoA holds its AGM in China, at a time when China is threatening Taiwan? (Screenshot and reposted in case this comment on the IFoA's page is deleted - as the IFoA has a habit of doing when inconvenient facts are pointed out). #actuaries #ethics #fail #ifoa #resetneeded
Last week, the executive of the IFoA came together to learn, share and connect as we looked back on the success of the past year and forward to exciting plans of the next. Highlights include hearing from guest speaker Sir John Timpson, chairman of Timpson Group, team building exercises and importantly, celebrating our colleagues and the work they do for our members. Congratulations to Mark Chau, Fiona Darwin, Matt Newcombe, Chunku Pani, Henry Thompson and Sonia Sequeira on winning IFoA Citizen Awards this year for embodying the IFoA's core values
