Road to Hamburg

Gothenburg, founded in 1621 by King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, is located on the west coast of Sweden. Its strategic location at the mouth of the Göta River made it an important trading hub from its inception. In its early years, Gothenburg was heavily influenced by Dutch merchants and engineers who were instrumental in designing the city's canals and urban layout, giving it a distinct character compared to other Swedish cities. The city's fortifications, built to protect against potential invasions, played a crucial role in its defense and development. The 18th and 19th centuries marked significant growth for Gothenburg, as it became a key center for shipbuilding and trade. The establishment of the Swedish East India Company in 1731 further cemented Gothenburg’s status as a vital trading port, facilitating commerce with Asia and beyond. Industrialization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries transformed Gothenburg into an industrial powerhouse. Major companies, including Volvo and SKF, were founded here, contributing to the city's economic prosperity and global reputation. Gothenburg celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2021, marking four centuries of rich history and development. Today, Gothenburg is celebrated for its blend of historical charm and modern innovation. The city boasts numerous cultural attractions, including the Gothenburg Opera, Liseberg amusement park, and the annual Gothenburg Film Festival, reflecting its dynamic and diverse cultural scene. 📌A significant outcome of the project is the Evaluation and Recommendations Report, which will provide in-depth policy recommendations for key stakeholders to promote the widespread implementation of WalkingBus activities. This report will be based on the findings from the project, including the successes and challenges faced during the WalkingBus initiatives across different partner countries.

Leipzig has been ranked 5th in Europe for quality of life according to a recent survey. This puts Leipzig ahead of Hamburg, Munich and of course Berlin, which was ranked below average. The survey analyzed 83 cities in Europe, making Leipzig's achievement even more impressive. #qualityoflife #Leipzig

Had a great time participating in a stimulating panel discussion on maritime innovation at Smart Maritime Network Athens. It was a pleasure to exchange views with Malte Cherdron, Richard Holdsworth, Stylianos Papageorgiou and Nir Gartzman. I think the photo encapsulates all the emotions we went through during our discussions. Key takeaways: ⭐️ there is an urgent need to cultivate a pipeline of strong founders ⭐️ we need to foster diverse business solutions that are solving for problems of the future while being relevant to the present ⭐️Many successful pilots do not get converted or commercialised. How do we move pilots to commercialisation? ⭐️there is no winning vertical or segment of innovation. Continuing my tour across all our markets in Hamburg, one of our top markets in 🇩🇪 Germany, with Philipp Haas and Christine Wenzel, our DACH CEO and Public Policy Director and the great Hamburg team: Bogdan Ivancea Farid Daher Oliver Jaworek Markus Ries Robert Jan Golaszewski & Noureddin Has Ali. Some takeaways: (1) Users: great demand for our 6,000 e-scooters and e-bikes. The team is working hard to reach the highest availability for users where they need them. (2) City: although parking tidiness has improved a lot in past years, it remains the top priority in Hamburg. Collaboration is in progress with Hamburg city to add new parking locations and/or leverage private bike parking spots. (3) Operations: we opened a few months ago a brand new operations center which improved working standards, quality of fleet maintenance and operational efficiency. No one is happier than us to announce that Sweden's municipalities are taking big steps towards greener mobility! Dagens industri in collaboration with Tyréns, has ranked how well Sweden's 35 largest municipalities are promoting sustainable mobility. Stockholm tops the list as Sweden's best mobility city in 2024, followed by Gothenburg and Lund.
