🇩🇪 Since July 2021, companies and importers that place packaging not subject to system participation on the German market have been obliged under the Packaging Act to also register this packaging on the LUCID platform. Packaging not subject to system participation includes  ▪️ export packaging that demonstrably does not accumulate as waste in Germany,  ▪️ large-scale commercial packaging (which arises in industry, i.e. at non-comparable sources of waste generation),  ▪️ transport packaging,  ▪️ reusable packaging,  ▪️ system-incompatible packaging,  ▪️ sales packaging for hazardous goods. In addition to this registration obligation, affected companies are required to document the quantities of this packaging placed on the market and to keep this documentation in their own files. Until now, no proof had to be provided. 📋 However, some companies have been requested by the Federal Statistical Office as part of nationwide surveys to submit documentation on the quantities of packaging not subject to system participation within four weeks of being requested.   If you are also affected by this request, or if you have any questions or concerns regarding this topic (e.g. master data determination, categorisation in legal definitions of packaging), please feel free to contact our RecycleMe experts at [email protected] at any time. The JOZO’s salt shaker range is a textbook example of continuous packaging improvement. Before 2021, the packaging was a combination of cardboard and aluminum (tube), polyethylene (bottom) and polystyrene (PE/PS cap). Seen the multicomponent construction, the shakers were considered partially recyclable. Wanting to future-proof its packaging, JOZO turned to SFA with a vision of complete recyclability. The salt tubes were revamped into mono-material PP packaging decorated with IML, which assured recyclability as well as shelf appeal. The all-polypropylene packaging was assessed by RecyClass, the cross-industry initiative that advances plastic packaging circularity in Europe. It utilises a transparent plastic film for the  window comprising less than 5% of the sack’s composition.
