My son got a paid internship at a large corporation and now a new series 🎬 (that’s what we jokingly call everyone’s external stories) “Son’s Hybrid Office” has appeared at home. And do you know what is the most entertaining thing about this series? I hear a lot from colleagues across companies and industries about Junior and Gen Z, and now I hear about “them” from Junior/ Gen Z. Now I have feedback from youth in the workspace. They're different, it's true! You know why? Because we ourselves raised them to be different, not like us... I'm wondering what the result of our efforts will be and I'm also learning a lot from them (my son)... #newgeneration #genz #teams #awareness #leaderships

Last week marked the midpoint of my Communications internship at Cook Medical... June really had somewhere to go! I wanted to jot down my reflections on the most important lessons learned the past six weeks: 1. "We work in Marketing and Communications, nobody is gonna die!" This is what my mentor Molly Cunningham told me the very first week of my internship. Work will always be there, she said, so I might as well take good care of myself, make my time off my time off, and come back rested rather than overwork and still cannot get everything done. 2. GEMO (good enough to move on) Another great piece of advice that Molly gave me - I'm not a perfectionist, but there are things that I'm passionate about and keep revising to improve them. That can end up in a loop that eventually makes me feel uninspired, halts progress, and takes away chances for collaboration. GEMO should not be an excuse to slack off but rather a way to ensure work progress and leave mental spaces for other tasks. 3. Don't take things personally Laura Holland said this was something that she wishes she knew early on in her career. This mindset keeps me open to learning curves and receiving feedback, but also reminds me that if somebody is extremely aggressive in giving me feedback, it is not necessarily a reflection of my ability. 4. You can learn to be more emotionally intelligent Knowing which type of personality will match a workplace and adjusting your communication style to work smoothly with different people are skills that can be learned. In the words of Justine Hines, MBA, there will be many hills that I want to die on while working on different projects, but it is important to know which hill is worth dying on, so that I can honor both my personal values and need to be a team player. Here's to hoping that July will not fly by so quickly, but well, time... I look forward to learning what you are doing over the summer, friends! 💕 P.S. Closing Ceremony - Internship Program 2023! Yesterday marked the grand finale of a transformative three-month journey as our exceptional interns took center stage to share their experiences and insights gained along the way. The session was hosted by Gul Rukh (People and Culture Lead) joined by Muhammad Owais Awan (CEO), Sameera Mirza (Head of R&D) and Syed Laraib Yahya (Marketing Coordinator). Key Highlights: 1. Each intern showcased their learnings and reflections in engaging presentations. From personal growth to professional development, their stories illuminated the transformative power of this experience. 2. Internship leaders from HR, Digital Marketing, and EdTech Research engaged in valuable feedback sessions, fostering a culture of mentorship and growth. As we bid farewell to this incredible chapter, we extend heartfelt gratitude to every intern, mentor, and leader who contributed to the success of this program. Can you believe we’re in Q2 of the calendar year and Q4 of the financial year! Thought I might give you an insight into some of what the last quarter saw for The Marketing GP. ☑️ We mentored Chelsea, a work experience student and events intern Olivia, as part of our wider internship program. ☑️ Our NPS survey was sent out and we had an increase in responses for this round, as well as some amazing feedback (with not one detractor in sight!) We also got some really great constructive feedback, which have put into our operational planning update. ☑️ We had a number of our team take some well-deserved breaks and go to some amazing places, both here in Australia and overseas – stay tuned for photos I am sure! ☑️ Our regular WIP meetings occurred each Monday, to ensure we are delivering for our marketing implementation retainer clients – both day-to-day, but also in line with the bigger picture of their strategy ☑️ The Easter Bunny delivered not only some chocolate, but also a session from our corporate masseuse. ☑️ We updated ten very detailed templates in our project management system, inline with our approach to continuous improvement for our processes. The upshot is we work smarter, not harder and continue to up the ante on our efficiency for our clients ☑️ Various team members attended 16 networking and business events to hear from amazing speakers and catch up with clients and stakeholders. A large number of those were related to International Women’s Day – which is now almost a month! ☑️ We had a team meeting and training day, which was an opportunity to learn from each other, talk about the year ahead and ensure we’re all on the same page ☑️ 1,23,456,789 photos and videos were taken (well that’s what our phone storage seems to think!) And to be honest, this is just the tip of the iceberg 🧊🧊🧊 When people ask me what our team is like, the key thing I seem to always say is how hard everyone works. We have a great culture (which is what you often see on our socials), but by golly does this team produce some amazing outputs. 🎯 Can’t wait to see what this quarter delivers 🎯

I'm a little late but I couldn't let the National Intern Day slip away from me. I absolutely have to highlight Jess LeSueur-Houtz! Lencioni has a philosophy that the best hires are hungry, humble, and smart. Jess is all three of those things. Jess, starts her internship and within two weeks had the entire leadership team raving about her. A leader- to me- is not a title; it is an action and Jess is it. It's rare to meet someone whose name becomes a verb and noun, ie "How can we Jess this thing? Or "how can we get some Jess like energy into this?" Here's how she made an impact over the past few months: 🏆 Hungry: At 7:59am she was asked to edit something by a VP before 9:30am and told it's okay not to do it since it's a last minute ask. She not only got it done way before 9:30am she also had some suggestions how to make it better. 🏆 Humble: There is no task to little for Jess. She is excited to learn and sees every opportunity that way. Our team observed when you give her feedback she lights up and gets excited someone has found a way for her to improve. If you pitch her a project her enthusiasm to take on more work is so big - it's contagious. 🏆 Smart: Multiple times she's taken the initiative to connect the dots for her leadership. She will say, "hey I heard this earlier today do you think that's relevant here?" She's absolutely not afraid to be wrong and would rather ask the question than assume the answer. Congratulations Jess. You up level every project you've touched, every team you've influenced, and our entire team culture.
