🌈✨ Embracing Inclusivity and Awareness: LGBTQ+ and Menopause ✨🌈 June is not only Pride Month but also an opportunity to spotlight important, often overlooked conversations within the LGBTQ+ community. One such topic is menopause. Menopause can be a complex and challenging experience for anyone, but for LGBTQ+ individuals, there can be unique additional layers of complexity. Trans and non-binary individuals may face menopause while navigating their gender identities, and lesbian, gay, and bisexual people might encounter a lack of tailored support within the healthcare system. Here's why this matters: 💜 Inclusive Healthcare: We need to advocate for healthcare systems that understand and support the specific needs of LGBTQ+ individuals going through menopause. This includes proper training for healthcare providers and inclusive medical literature. 💙 Community Support: Building supportive communities where LGBTQ+ individuals can share their experiences and access resources without fear of judgment or discrimination is crucial. 💛 Mental Health: Menopause can significantly impact mental health. For LGBTQ+ individuals, existing challenges related to identity and acceptance can be exacerbated. Mental health support that acknowledges and respects these identities is essential. Let's work together to break the stigma and ensure everyone, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation, has access to the support and care they need during menopause. Inclusive conversations lead to inclusive actions. 💜❤️🧡💛💚💙💜❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 #PrideMonth #LGBTQPlus #MenopauseAwareness #InclusiveHealthcare #SupportAndCare #BreakTheStigma

Despite menopause often being discussed as an issue that only affects women, it also impacts people of different genders, including trans men who were assigned female at birth and non-binary individuals who don't identify strictly as male or female. These individuals can experience severe unease, known as dysphoria when experiencing menopause, as it reminds them of the reproductive system they were born with and the gender they do not identify with. There's a significant research gap addressing menopause in LGBTQ+ individuals, making it difficult to develop targeted interventions and support mechanisms. Consequently, menopause and other age-related issues among the transgender population are not well understood in the scientific community. This lack of understanding can lead to issues in care and potentially higher risks for certain age-related disorders. We need to bridge this gap in research and healthcare to ensure all individuals, regardless of gender identity, receive the care and support they deserve. By raising awareness and advocating for inclusive research, we can help create a healthcare system that acknowledges and addresses the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals going through menopause. . . . #InclusiveHealth #MenopauseAwareness #LGBTQHealth #HealthEquity #PrideMonth

I’m a Family Physician that is empathetic, patient centered/inclusive. I treat the whole person and partner with patients on their individual health journeys. I love my specialty and ability to motivate change.
While 2024 promises to be a groundbreaking year for women's health, we must also confront the significant setbacks of the past year. The erosion of reproductive rights and restricted access to care for the LGBTQ+ community, including in North Carolina, underscore the urgent need for focused action on healthcare equity. As a dedicated advocate for women's health, I'm both challenged and inspired by the landscape ahead. The spotlight on women's health is long overdue. For too long, women's health issues have been under-researched, underfunded, and under-discussed. But the tide is turning. From advancements in reproductive health to breakthroughs in heart disease and breast cancer research, we're witnessing an era of unprecedented focus and innovation. Let's champion this momentum to ensure women's health issues receive the attention and resources they deserve. Together, we can make 2024 a year of action and achievement for women's health. The attached article provides a fabulous “in road” for opening menopause conversations in the workplace, given the age demographic of some women in leadership roles. “Closing the gender gap in the workplace isn’t just a matter of social justice; it’s an economic necessity. Empowering women contributes to increased productivity, profitability, and economic growth. Harnessing the full potential of the workforce is not just a moral obligation; it’s a sound business strategy” Protecting investments in the workforce is imperative to retain experience and encourage women into leadership roles. By providing support structures for menopause and fostering a “we care and understand” environment women will feel less inclined to leave. “One in 10 women have left work because of symptoms of the menopause” (People In Management) Every business would be wise to implement a Menopause In The Workplace policy as without it 1000’s of women could be giving up their positions, passing on promotions or reducing their hours. Given that the average age of menopause is 51, businesses would do well to harness the wealth of experience, productivity and talent this age demographic can bring. #MenopauseInTheWorkplace #Menopause #GenderEqualityAndDiversity #UAE Caroline Richardson Sheriza Bazari Constance Van Horne Georgina Sosa Ceri Cashell Neha Gami Wendy Jayne Savory

According to a new survey by Forth, which provides hormone tests for women Two-thirds of people in the UK believe that women face discrimination at work when going through the menopause. Being passed up for promotions and not being taken seriously by their line managers and colleagues were highlighted as key issues. Supporting women through menopause isn’t just about addressing symptoms; it’s about fostering an environment of understanding, empathy, and respect. Remember, if menopause symptoms have a long-term and substantial impact on a woman’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities, these symptoms could be considered a disability. #gender #support #wellbeing

This #WorldContraceptionDay, we highlight the critical role midwives play in empowering women and promoting gender equality. By providing reliable education and quality contraceptive services, midwives enable women to take control of their reproductive health, allowing women to decide if and when they want to become pregnant. When midwives offer comprehensive contraceptive care, they not only improve health outcomes but also support women's rights and choices, making them key drivers of gender equality and sustainable development.

📢 Call for Research Volunteers! (Menopause and the LGBTQ+ Community) The Diversity Trust is currently co-creating a series of white papers targeting employers, focusing on diversity in menopause. At the end of July, we released the first of our series, spotlighting the intersection of disability and menopause. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eKrZ9r-h The next will explore the experience of menopause in the LGBTQ+ community. This is a shout-out for folk who identify as LGBTQ+, and are experiencing (pre/post) menopause, who would like to contribute as volunteers to this research by way of a mini case study and some quotes. This contribution is anonymised as far as possible through using pseudonyms. However, some details are included to give enough context and to highlight any intersectionality. This element of the research helps build the anecdotal narrative, as this is sorely lacking at the moment. This is then set against a literature review of the existing material relating to the LGBTQ+ experience of menopause. ➡ How to participate: If you’re an LGBTQ+ person experiencing (peri/post) menopause, with an hour or so to spare, and would be open to participating in this research as a volunteer, please reach out to Annie Moon or email [email protected] with subject line – ‘Diversity in Menopause – LGBTQ+ - volunteer’. The research involves an open-ended Q&A interview. This will take place on Zoom. It is recorded for internal used only. Please share and comment on this post for reach – many thanks. 💚 Haley White (MSc) Menospace Stephanie Reid Michael M.

Inspire Inclusion is the theme for this year's International Women's Day and its aim is to raise awareness about discrimination and gender parity. It’s easy to pinpoint bias, discrimination and stereotypes out in the big wide world, but what about the bias and discrimination closer to home? Do we unknowingly discriminate against ourselves because of our beliefs Menopause? Are you willing to engage in open conversations about Menstruation and Menopause with your partner and children? Is it a topic of discussion with friends and family, or does it remain hidden or brushed aside as a joke? Are you truly achieving gender equality in your own home? Do you exclude yourself from activities or social events because you don’t feel good about yourself? Insecurities about self-image? Do you underestimate your worth and capability? These self-imposed biases can hinder our personal growth and slowly, over time grind us down. Real change begins from within, and as we celebrate International Women's Day and the power of its message, I ask that you consider how you can free your daily life of the stereotypes and discrimination that we fight so hard to overcome in the world at large. Wishing You a Merry Menopause and #iwd 2024 Jo 🙏 #iwd2024 #coach #professionaldevelopment _______________ Hi, I'm Jo Fuller, founder of The Merry Menopause and ICF coach.
