Half of employees diagnosed with cancer or serious chronic illness are afraid to reveal it professionally. Yet more than 90% have a positive experience when they do. When a company takes The Working with Cancer Pledge, they are helping to ensure workplace support from the moment an employee needs it most.   Meaningful activation of the Working with Cancer Pledge will look different across companies and industries, but is representative of the 5 commitment pillars: ⭕ Corporate benefits and policy: To ensure that those diagnosed with cancer can confidently make space for the treatment and recovery they need.   ⭕ Community: To connect individuals and to encourage a culture of empathy and understanding across the workforce at large.   ⭕ Coaching: To ensure that impacted personnel have access to support that can help integrate work with treatment and its effects.   ⭕ Communication: Internally, to ensure all employees can expect workplace support, and externally, to normalize the expectation of workplace support across a given industry at large.   ⭕ Contribution: To contribute to the Working with Cancer Initiative via encouraging pledge signature and activation by other companies and/or via monetary support of cancer-related charitable organizations.   We believe workplace support changes outcomes. Last year, the Publicis Foundation launched the first cross-industry coalition to erase the stigma of cancer in the workplace, supported and partnered here in the UK by Working With Cancer and Macmillan Cancer Support. This movement aims to eliminate job fear and insecurity for those impacted by cancer or chronic illness. Working With Cancer now has the backing of more than 1300 companies worldwide that are committed to providing a more open, supportive culture at work for all employees with cancer. Many stories go around as to where Movember originated from. And truly - it is not as important as the fact that it has become an important movement. In one way or the other we all have men in our lives we care about. Does any of them go regular for check ups? Does a discussion ensue every time there is a health check scheduled? Is the work prostate exam a fire cracker ? These are all signs that men’s health is not discussed enough. Specifically the uncomfortable topics such as cancer, mental health and many more. This is also because these topics don’t match well with the perception that men need to be strong, should not be sick (except for the deadly man flu) and never should be showing signs of weakness. We relate the pink ribbon with cancer topics representative to women - over the last years the moustache has become a symbol for awareness for men’s health. So whilst we can’t grow one like our colleagues - we can join the ranks and start a conversation about it! Thanks MoSistaz for the support. And - i am grateful that i work for company that is paying attention to even uncomfortable topics. Instead, it holds a more profound purpose—creating awareness about breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Let's be clear; it's not a time for celebration but an opportunity to share vital information about this formidable illness. Surprisingly, many individuals remain inadequately informed about breast cancer. For instance, some may not realise that sauna sessions aren't recommended during treatment due to their potential to cause overheating and discomfort for patients. However, the true impact of this awareness hit me harder this year. One of my male friends received a shocking diagnosis, and it was a sobering reminder that breast cancer doesn't discriminate by gender. The emotional whirlwind this news brought with it was overwhelming. While donning pink attire and participating in themed events is a delightful way to show support, it's essential to ensure the message penetrates deep into our hearts and minds. Breast Cancer Awareness Month isn't just a cause; it's a mission that hits close to home. It's about spreading awareness of the illness, and it resonates deeply with those affected.
