Today is Giving Tuesday - a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. For 80 years our charity has been sharing the benefits of environmental education with schools across the UK. We know that schools can often face financial barriers to access outdoor education, which is why we give grants to state schools where at least 10% of their students receive pupil premium. After attending our courses, schools report positive health and well-being impacts, especially resilience, confidence, and teamwork. They have told us how their groups learn environmental knowledge, especially understanding topics after seeing them in real life. And the positive impact even includes the outcome of examinations and improved curriculum success. One primary school told us: “The experiences allow children freedom to learn in a way that the confines and rules of the classroom cannot.” Uplifting feedback from a secondary school included: “The course opened a box of new skills and strategies to further develop and pursue outdoor learning in my school” Today we would like to ask you to consider supporting our charity and the work we do in our mission is to create outstanding opportunities for everyone to learn about nature. 📣 Good news 📣 For the second year in a row schools in BCP Council, identified the highest percentage of young carers on the school census! We have also seen significant improvements in identification for the schools that belong to the Isle of Wight Council and Dorset Council UK. This is fantastic news, it shows that the support MYTIME Young Carers offers schools through our Level Up Programme is working. It also provides a stark contrast to the national data which showed that 72% of schools didn't identify any young carers at all. Why does this matter? The data MYTIME Young Carers has gathered shows that being a young carer has a huge impact on both attendance and attainment. It is only when schools identify young carers that they are able to provide the support young carers need. In one local secondary school in BCP that we are working with, they have developed strategies which have improved the attendance for 70% of their young carers! That is amazing and something to be incredibly proud of, the impact this will have on the young carers at that school will be life changing.
