Last week I put on my best 'radio' voice and talked independent publishing with Jacob Granger from journalism.co.uk. We probably stopped just shy of solving all the sector's ills in our fireside 20-ish mins, but in particular we covered: 🏆 Impress regulated publisher *Guildford Dragon* achieving charitable status and how that opens up a further avenue for philanthropic funding for the industry. The synergy between ethics, accountability, and charitable cause may seem like a no brainer, but like all things the long term impact of this achievement will be determined by UK funders seeing the value in supporting core service delivery over and above discrete projects and campaigns 🕸 AI company licensing deals and the potential traps or pitfalls of creating big tech dependencies similar to search or social traffic referral, where news publishers risk not sufficiently diversifying and being left out in the cold if such deals end up being the sustainability dead end; also how we need to continue to advocate for transparency, human decision making and ethical design as tech becomes more deterministic of our news experience 💡 Impress' new initiatives to reach journalists, creators and newsmakers from non-traditional pathways with ethics training and wrap around services to navigate publishing risk and build trust with their audiences Hope there will be nuggets of interest in there for you all! It is always a pleasure and privilege to have my musings platformed. #independentpublishing #aiadoption #knowyournews

Veteran, Human Rights Advocate, Environmentalist & Independent Journalist - None are free until ALL are free. #endhumantrafficking
Let's get one thing straight - this book is an incredible piece of journalism. It needs and deserves to be read by anyone who cares about human rights and the trajectory of our current sociopolitical system. You can not bury your head in the sand and hope that someone else will step in and be aware for you. That shit doesn't fly anymore. I was gifted an advance copy, and it's all I've been able to think about since I picked it up and started reading it two days ago. When I finish it, I'll be sharing my thoughts in an episode for The Deep Dive Project. What I can say right now is that I am learning so many fascinating little tidbits of information, and it's filling in some of the historical gaps in my knowledge. This thing is ROBUST, and Gareth did a fantastic job. The book will debut next month, but pre-orders are available NOW. If you are able to, please support Gareth's hard work and effort. I've linked it below. Pre-order here--> https://amzn.to/3TCc3Fw [This is a totally independent venture. Your support and feedback are much appreciated!
