Labour published their manifesto yesterday. I had to trawl through and found the following below on their plans for TU and living wage. We can expect to see large increases in 2025 and a tougher negotiating environment, with changes focused on: Banning zero contract hours Introducing basic rights to parental leave, sick pay and protection from unfair dismissal Strengthen trade unions and introduce a single enforcement body to make sure employment rights are upheld Ensure the minimum wage reflects the real living wage Remove age bands so that all adults are entitled to the same minimum wage It looks like we night be in for some even bigger shifts in the living wage than we saw came into effect this year. This is a great move to lift more people out of poverty, but it will come at a cost: Companies are still struggling with the 2024 increase. It will also create the inevitable circle of inflation. 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐦 𝐰𝐚𝐠𝐞 is on the lips of many a business owner at the moment, with the increase from £10.42p/hr for workers aged 23 and over, rising to £11.44 in April 2024, and for the first time this rate will apply to 21 and 22 year olds. 🤑 🤑 With cost of living on the rise, is this part of the governments plan to boost consumer spending and reduce income inequality? Increasing minimum wage comes with headaches for small businesses but the positives can far outweigh the initial bite. My advice is to heed this increase during your annual pay reviews, as those in the lower pay brackets are seeing the pay gap between them and minimum wage closing swiftly so increasing pay across the board is often recommended. With these increases often your consumers have greater spending power so this can benefit local businesses and contribute to a healthier economy. Are you worried about the increase or do you agree it was needed? #minimumwage #economicchange #economicrecovery #businessstrategy #paygap #jfrecruitment

It's #autumnstatement day but in a spoiler ahead of time, the Government confirmed yesterday that it has accepted the latest recommendations from the Low Pay Commission for increases to the National Living and Minimum Wages. 💲 It's the first time a rate has increased by more than £1 💲 From 1 April 2024, the top rate will move from £10.42 to £11.44: an increase of 9.8%. 💲 That top rate will also apply to workers aged 21 and over, not 23 and over as currently. There's more detail in my article here 👇🏼 #nmw #nlw #pay #hr #employment
