I didn’t think I was going to share this for a number of reasons but here we are because two days on I’m still feeling very grateful.
16 days ago I landed in Lombok Indonesia with the goal to get my health under control, focus on the marketing of our national tour and take a moment with no external distractions to really reflect on my values, my why, my beliefs and who I wanted to become.
I have spent most of these 16 days alone - a rarity in life and also often something I avoided, I can count on one hand the number of IRL conversations I have had. July was a big month, 2 camps, launched national tour and a team retreat, a lot of human interaction for one month.
So this moment the other night brought so much joy and reminded me of the power of connection. I was sitting on this hill (alone), just chilling when I was joined by this group of lads who were with their university studying English.
We spent the next hour together of mutual learning - they taught me Bahasa Indonesian, I taught them English (safe to say they were much better at English than I was at Bahasa). They invited me to their school to have a bbq with them, offered to take me to climb a volcano, and all of them added my phone number to their contacts 😅
And it served as a gentle reminder too me, how important connection is and where conversations can go to a new depth.
This experience reinforced for me how vital human connection is, even in moments of solitude. Through conversation, we build compassion, understanding, and empathy. The new perspectives these lads shared with me will stay with me, a reminder of the depth that can be found in simple, genuine interactions.
In the end, self-leadership isn’t just about knowing yourself, but also about opening yourself up to the connections that help you grow. It’s through these moments that we find the clarity and strength to lead with purpose.
