Workplace violence does not always involve company employees, and protection from workplace violence, falls on the employer, no matter who the aggressor is. Employees who suffer acts of domestic violence, which is statistically more often women, could have the potential to affect workplace safety. Although currently only a California SB 553 requirement, how a workplace will address acts of domestic violence is valuable information, no matter what state your company operates in. Just a reminder to all California Employers : On July 1, 2024, SB 553 will require California employers to implement a comprehensive Workplace Violence Prevention Plan with specific requirements. SB 553 applies to all California employers, employees, places of employment and employer-provided housing, with limited exceptions. Employers are also required to provide training to all employees.
