SMS picks an important Culture Topic for discussion every month, and June’s topic is: Safety Culture, which ties directly into our June Safety Month. We define “Safety Culture” as having all team members' mindsets, attitudes, and behaviors focused on safety every day. Rather than falling into the trap of complacency, we work to adopt positive safety mindsets, attitudes, and behaviors. Safety is everyone’s responsibility. A positive safety culture is a vital part of keeping our facilities, teams, company, and customers safe and successful. #ServiceManagementSystems #smsclean #WhateverItTakes #CultureTrainingTopic #SafetyCulture

This poster really caught my eye and made me think how workers really learn safety culture, what motivates them to adopt a safe mindset and how they too can positively effect others. Formal processes have their place and play an important role in compliance and to raise awareness but it’s through social interaction and communication where a Safety Culture can truly take place. Attitudes and behaviours are not absolute and these can be changed both positively and negatively. You ultimately decide the safety culture in your organisation. When the safety culture is taught by line leaders and not the safety department that’s when you will reap the rewards. Have a great weekend everyone. 😄

#The_Safety_culture_tree The Safety Culture Tree is a metaphorical representation used in safety management to illustrate the various components influencing an organization's safety culture. It typically consists of roots, trunk, branches, and fruits: #Roots: Fundamental elements such as leadership commitment, organizational values, and employee involvement. These form the foundation of safety culture. #Trunk: Represents policies, procedures, and processes that support safety. This central component provides structure and stability to the safety culture. #Branches: Reflect behaviors, communication, and interactions within the organization. Positive branches indicate a healthy safety culture, while negative ones may suggest areas for improvement. #Fruits: The visible outcomes of the safety culture, including safety performance, incident rates, and overall well-being. These outcomes are influenced by the health of the roots, trunk, and branches. Understanding and nurturing each element contributes to building a robust safety culture within an organization.

SAFETY, SECOND NATURE “Safety is not merely a set of guidelines or protocols to be followed; it should be an inherent part of our culture and mindset. It’s about fostering a workplace where everyone feels responsible for their own safety and the safety of others. When safety becomes second nature, it ceases to be an obligation and becomes a way of life.” Geoff Chambers, Director of Safety Learn more about RGC's Culture of Safety at https://rabren.com/safety/
