This time every year is inevitably one of reflection on what's happened over the last twelve months and looking forward to what the new year will bring. Last year was one of significant change for the Insurance & Asset Management industries as reflected in the volume and breadth of the topics on which we published (shown in the graphic below) across strategy, operations, finance, climate, and actuarial.
We think about transformation occurring in four broad 'moments' that underlie all of these publications:
- Customer-driven: focused on identifying growth or efficiency opportunities, client-back. Core questions are ‘How can I accelerate topline growth by serving unmet customer needs?’, ‘Where are the big whitespaces where my ‘crown jewel’ capabilities would give me a right to win?’ Examples here: https://lnkd.in/eFXBtj8T
- Performance-driven: This can be driven from a number of different directions – ‘My operating model isn’t fit for purpose and I need to better align it with my strategy’, ‘I have too much cost in my system and need to become more efficient’, ‘I need to realign where I’m spending to take cost out of legacy / non-core areas and reinvest in critical capabilities’. Examples here: https://lnkd.in/enwUeFxp and https://lnkd.in/eweGB2wr and https://lnkd.in/eZ-RJ48X. Also, lots on Actuarial Transformation here: https://lnkd.in/eecsi43N
Deal-driven: Supporting the integration, spin-off, or IPO of businesses. Example here: https://lnkd.in/eTjjbeYG
Stakeholder-driven: Commonly as a result of policy/regulatory change, a Board/activist promoting change, pressure from analysts / shareholders, or as a result of a new CEO/management team. Example here: https://lnkd.in/eJDPA2SQ
Looking forward, 2024 promises to be equally as active on all four themes!
