I often come across articles about Insurers and Pensions that are unloading assets and taking such big losses on them, such as the recent Allstate sale in Chicago and then see in the same article below Allstate seeks a 34% hike in California premiums...it doesn't take a genius to figure things out, makes you wonder if premium hikes are a function of exogenous risk or merely a tool for corporate investment malfeasance for recoupment. So if big insurers are taking steep losses in some of this CRE, does mark to markets eventually start to effect capital ratios, be interesting to dig into this more!
