Feeding a community helps it become (and stay) strong. According to Statistics Canada, 22.9% of families experienced food insecurity in 2022—that's almost one out of every four families! Until Justice Data Partners was founded because of the need for accessible information to the people who live within a community. Where other organizations and governments often come in to a community to tell them what is best, they then dismiss the expertise of the people who belong to the community itself. Scientific data and expertise isn't all about numbers. Data also includes personal experiences from the people who live with the reality of pollution and environmental disasters every day. Our goal at UJDP is to help elevate the voices of the people who matter - the people who know these communities inside and out - and to help them speak for themselves. We stand ready to welcome people who are being turned away at the border under the Biden Administration’s new order. KBI is coordinating with other organizations and communities in Ambos Nogales who stand ready to welcome the hundreds of people who have been cut off from the asylum process. Nogales is ready. We are proud to be located in a place that has key infrastructure to welcome people who have been turned away. At the same time, we know that we need more resources and partnership to make sure we can accompany people and mobilize Ambos Nogales for local hospitality. We are communicating with local shelters and coordinating with partners like Grupo Beta. Together, we can make sure that the people caught in the crosshairs of the Biden Administration’s extreme actions are welcome with a humane, integrated response. The US and Mexican governments must do their part by freeing up resources so we can make sure we can offer food, shelter, clothing, medical care, and more. You can play a critical role, too.
