The real estate industry accounts for 40 percent of global emissions. The traditional approach to the decarbonization imperative has limitations that cause the process to be difficult, laborious, and expensive but thanks to improvements in data and analytic methods, a new AI-informed approach can more efficiently lower emissions, profitably. My sustainability colleagues wrote an article on adopting a more efficient approach, allowing real estate players to save millions and portfolios to achieve net zero at a neutral to positive net present value. Our CEO, Mike Darby, took part in a fascinating panel discussion on the main stage at #CREtechLondon2024. Mike made some really key points: 💡 "You can start tomorrow, operational efficiencies are abundant in every single commercial building. You can make massive savings really, really quickly with immediate carbon impact that will improve your credentials" I personally think the issue is we do not really know what is happening in buildings, even if we think we do, and have little chance of knowing without adopting a system like Demand Logic that makes it clear. ⚠ "In 2018 when we had the 'Beast from the east' with the coldest March day on record, one central London building was cooling a third of its spaces, using 500 homes worth of electricity to do so and then it was using about 600 homes worth of gas to heat it back up again" Demand Logic works with a number of different types of clients within the property sector but being from a FM Service Provider myself, I know that bringing that level of visibility and subsequent savings to a client could be the difference between wining/retaining or losing a contract.
