One thing building startups has taught me: "Strategy" is highly overrated. Speed of execution is underrated. Sure, have a directional strategy. You don't want to mindlessly operate. But then focus all your energy on execution. • Get customers • Deliver for them • Ask them for feedback • Implement what's relevant Then do that on repeat. Strategy is revealed, not designed.

We believe in a Stewardship for startups, we call it a Startup Co-Operative. One of the top 5 reasons why companies fail is Team and Succession, with a Co-Operative approach you can make sure that The Inventor, The Starter and The Builder are aligned in the success of the company and therefore bigger chance of succes. Normally these people have total different profiles, but with this approach they can hand over the company without losing the incentive. Especially in Deep Tech & Health Tech this could be the ideal since it takes a company on average of 10-15 years to get to scale. Great article by Jon Warner

Enjoyed being in Boston for Greentown Labs ClimateTech Summit! Here were my takeaways: - Hardtech is making a surge! As someone who is obsessed with manufacturing technologies solving the world’s greatest challenges this gets me excited. - Investment capital is opening up for startups. Great news for founders…but that doesn’t mean the hustle is over. Rounds still take time to come together and investors are asking for more meetings before writing a check. (I heard a story of a startup meeting with a potential investor 10 times per year for 3 years before they led a round). Relationships matter. - Doing hard things takes time. A lot of the startups I met were still in early stages; “pre pre-seed” in some cases. They had been building for a few years before raising an initial round. They were closer to commercialization to raise a first round than startups would have been 4 years ago. It is what it is. Welcome to the new market… Overall, I left feeling excited for ClimateTech for the first time in a long time. It feels like the market is reopening and we’re at the precipice of seeing some great traction. Many thanks to Greentown Labs for hosting a great event and thanks Aisling Carlson for the invite!!
