When St. Patrick’s Day comes to mind, it's usually accompanied by visions of green beer and Guinness, the quintessential drinks for this yearly occasion. However, in 2023, Kahlúa (the Mexican coffee liqueur brand from Pernod Ricard) shook things up by introducing a fresh take on the tradition. 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 Research revealed that 30% of consumers feel obligated to order a beer on St. Patrick’s Day, even if it's not their preference. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 The campaign’s strategy was to challenge conventional choices by disrupting the beer-centric holiday. Kahlúa seized this insight to challenge the status quo, offering a delightful alternative. 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚 The Irish Espresso Martini. While this campaign also gave a nod to Guinness, the results were remarkable, effectively hijacking a traditionally beer-dominated occasion and putting a new drink into the minds of the consumer. I like how they created demand for a product not typically associated with St. Patrick's Day and wonder what the long term effect on sales will be.
