When I was training for my first 100 mile race in 2006 …I did a lot of research around hydration…. I discovered coconut water. This was before coconut water hit the US market in any significant way… I KNEW I could market and sell it. This was a magic drink. I tried to find a way to bring it to the US on my own, but what I’ve never been… is a good operator. So I had to find one. 2 things that have been KEY to my business success, including my success with Zico... 1. I spend my time doing what I’m good at (marketing, sales, culture, vision, ideas, people) 2. Partnering with great operators that CEO/founder/operator was @Mark Rompolla and it worked. Zico grew into an amazing brand and we sold it to Coca Cola 3 years later. PS: Still drink A LOT of zico when I’m doing a big endurance race. Lived off of it at Ultraman Arizona.
