Launching any new initiative is tough and there is a bunch of reasons which could stop you in your tracks..... It requires you to be relentless, be able to listen, learn and adapt, be able to deal with rejection, collaborate, be able to find the right partners and critically surround yourself with those who not only believe and champion you, but support you in a meaningful way. More than ever any new initiative has to be compelling, relevant, and demonstrate a positive impact. I am proud that the York & North Yorkshire Hospitality Junior Board which was launched less than a year ago is not only recruiting for a second cohort but is planning a 3rd early next year. It is compelling, relevant, and impactful... Attached is an overview of the programme, a programme with 3 objectives: 1) Identify future leaders 2) Build skills 3) Change the perception of the sector Please have a read of the attached to see how it aims to achieve these objectives. Our goal? To take 100 young managers through the programme over the next 3 years. This alone will have the biggest impact on the 3rd objective highlighted above! I have amazing partners who have made this initiative a reality: - Andrew Kendrick FIH and Splendid Hospitality Group - Stewart Moss MIH, Jocelyn de Goey CBII and Zonal - Louise Wright, Richard Lowes and Punch Creative - Wayne Topley, Becki Maud and Cedar Court Hotels Yorkshire - York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub - North Yorkshire Council - Brendan Paddison and York St. John University - Wayne Chadwick and YO1 Radio - Laura Mason and NYBEP Ltd - Julia Munder and ROi Media Productions If you love hospitality, agree with the objectives, and understand its value to the economy, people, and place then I encourage you to DM me to get involved. #hospitality #futureleaders #skills #perception #ecomomy

Happy to see Explore St. Louis finally making changes to its leadership. The expansion of our convention center has been a self-inflicted financial disaster (+$50M over budget). Bookings for conferences at the center have not recovered Post-Covid which in turn has caused our local government/businesses to lose millions in revenue. We continue to receive a masterclass in subpar leadership and are surprised by poor results. This is on us folks. We keep electing/hiring these people who are incapable of running things. Here is my advice to the recruitment committee for Explore St. Louis: Only hire someone that ran a lemonade 🍋 stand when they were younger. Sounds simple but it’s not. Running a successful business is hard. You have to be good at selling, marketing, budgeting, hiring/managing people, etc. If you suck at the aforementioned, capitalism will fire you fast. We need to hold our leaders accountable. If you are successful, we will reward you. If you stink, we will replace you. Set a standard of excellence NOT mediocrity. #leadership #accountability David Robert

Principles of a Successful Presidential Transition A presidential transition is a valuable—and vulnerable—time for an institution. It is a moment of opportunity that can be effectively utilized or squandered. How can you harness the energy of a transition to capitalize on the opportunity? There are four principles that will enable your college to move forward strategically. (https://lnkd.in/eDD56aWR) ● Celebrate together. In order to move forward well, you need to spend appropriate time marking the important moments of the last presidency. Allow a wide variety of ways to celebrate, including publications, public events, and social media. ● Communicate Often. Transparency is essential for a successful presidential transition. The search process should be thoroughly explained and readily available. Create a specific page on your college website that students, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders can refer to when they have questions about timelines, process, and progress. ● Engage Your Mission. An institution is bigger than any one leader. Anchor your community in the principals that have been through lines across the history of your college. Throughout the transition, intentionally connect to the mission and values that drive your organization. This will enable your community to be nourished by the past as they step into the future.

It was a really inspiring first day at the Concordia Summit in NYC that brought together heads of state, industry leaders and so many more. Many of these distinguished speakers reinforced the need for social impact partnerships to help tackle the biggest global challenges of our time. It’s why I’m so passionate about this work and the multiplying impact that partnerships can create. There were so many themes that resonated throughout the panels: the importance of risk-taking, creativity, experimentation, humility — and how important it is for leaders to be optimistic, especially in our complicated world today. Some of my favorite quotes from the day: *Prince Harry - Duke of Sussex (with two INCREDIBLE Diana Award winners): “Every single one of us needs courage in order to really move the dial and create positive change in today’s world- probably more so now than ever.” *Darren Walker - the President of the Ford Foundation: “Worry less about failure and more about impact.” *Arun Gupta - CEO of NobleReach: “We would start every board meeting asking, what 5 things did we do wrong” [in order to learn from mistakes and work quickly to experiment and innovate] *Wilbur Ross - the former Secretary of Commerce: “Don’t be afraid to rock the boat. Most boats needs a little rocking.” I look forward to more inspiring panels and conversations today with colleagues. Can’t wait to see what Day 2 brings!
