Hi ! Several years ago, I was an Executive Director of a campground in Central Texas. Picture rolling Texas farmland, pastures of Spring Bluebonnets, Paintbrush, and Gaillardia. About a year into my tenure there, a fracking well went in across the highway, less than a mile away. I had seen the signs of the Eagle Ford Shale boom as I traveled the highways, running errands and taking my kids to school, massive towers of lights that dulled the stars, open water wells filled with who-knows-what chemicals, and the fracking wells themselves dotting the landscape. This one was close. I didn’t realize how close until one morning, instead of songbirds, I heard a huge THUD, then a jackhammer noise and a pause. It continued throughout the days for what seemed like eternity. It was disturbing to say the least. And I can’t imagine what the wildlife in the area experienced–terror perhaps? It was then I decided to promote renewable energy and green practices. When my tenure at the campground was complete, I made a commitment to work FOR the environment. Fast forward a bit, and I worked for a young entrepreneur, building a business in renewable energy. I saw the struggles she had growing her company, sacrificing her own pay to add people, make payroll, add benefits for her employees. And I knew there had to be another way! My idea for a business that helped EcoPreneurs manage their finances while balancing people, profit and planet. Green Hawk came to fruition 5 years ago with a dual purpose of helping Green Businesses manage their Green (money, of course!).
