Not enough people talk about how graduating from college can be a really scary time. It can feel overwhelming to suddenly be expected to have a job lined up to launch into your career. (Not to mention the looming pressure of student debts.) While many jobs we work on are for more seasoned professionals at Primary Services, I'm very excited to share we will be conducting another Open House for recent grads! If you're interested in getting feedback on your resume, your interview skills, and learning about real job opportunities then send me a message to set you up with a recruiter. If you want to learn what I wish I had known as a first-time job hunter then keep reading... 1. Job titles denote seniority. This might seem like a "no duh" but understanding how they communicate level of experience is helpful during the job search. Coordinators, Assistants, and "Junior" titles are more entry-level and expect maybe an internship or max a few years of experience. Associates average around 3+ years of experience (but this one can vary wildly depending on the industry.) Specialists and Managers are usually expected to have around 5+ years of experience in the corporate world. Keep this in mind as you job hunt. It'll probably be a waste of your time to look at most jobs with the title specialist. 2. Networking really is helpful. Don't underestimate the simple power of talking to professionals in your desired field or connecting with people at the companies you are interested in working for. 3. Do your due diligence on companies you are applying for. Don't just apply for the first job you see that says "college grads!" Make sure you look at their website and research the people who work there. There are scams out there so do be cautious. 4. Don't give up!

This The Wall Street Journal story underscores a common denominator to early career success: paid, work-based learning experiences. 🏆 When all students have access to meaningful, work-based learning opportunities, everyone wins, including businesses. 💡 Research from the National Association of Colleges and Employers has found that interns who become employees are retained at higher rates than other hires: 75.5% are still with the organization after their first year on the job compared to 51.5% of non-intern employees (NACE 2023 Internship & Co-op Report, 2023). Education at Work graduates hired by corporate partners have a 90% retention rate after one year. Connect with us to learn how we can work together to grow work-based learning opportunities to develop and source highly motivated and highly skilled early career talent for your business. #collegetalent #earlycareertalent #hiring #collegegrads #internships #talentdevelopment

I asked 100 students about their career aspirations after college... Some responded that they didn't know, while others were indecisive, confused, or unaware of the multiple options available to them. It's estimated that 50% of college students begin their academic journey "Undecided" about their career paths. A staggering 75% of them change their majors before graduating. Starting college "Undecided" is acceptable, but remaining in that state can hamper your career success. You have plenty of time to figure things out, but it's important to use that time wisely. Here are some steps to help you find the right career path: 🎯 Assess your skills and interests. 🎯 Identify activities that puts you in a flow. 🎯 Seek out internships, part-time jobs, and volunteer opportunities to gain practical experience and discover your strengths. 🎯 Attend career fairs, industry events, and alumni networking sessions to connect with professionals. "The greatest return on your investment in a college education isn't just your degree—though that's certainly crucial—it's instilling a love for lifelong learning and guiding students toward their passions," said Jeremy Borling, senior director of communication at North Central College. What are your thoughts?

A nice career guide from Kansas State to help with resumes, interviewing, getting offers, etc. For more help, pasted below are links from Harvard, Yale, MIT, & WMU. Should college grads negotiate a job offer (i.e., a higher starting salary)? Yes, but only if you know how to negotiate. My thoughts: https://lnkd.in/gEZF6prG. Here’s what a lot of college grads don’t know about their first job offer: https://lnkd.in/gG2DeF2h. “Just 38% of new grads negotiate w/ their employers when they get that first job offer. But meanwhile, most employers actually expect to negotiate salary — even for a first job — so they build that in. That means, if you don’t even try, you could be leaving money on the table!” Yale advice: https://lnkd.in/gggJFADW & https://lnkd.in/gxkjy3sm.
